Real Entry for the Weekend

Hi all

I just KNOW you are loving the 'Ali Baba and a Thousand and One Websites' random rundown I am giving - lol it may be a boring concept, but I'm trying to inject humour in it, and they are my HONEST first impressions of these sites, and hell who knows there may be a book out of it (self published, of course).

Lots of news this morning, Reagan dying being the biggie. I must not be an American lol, Bush over in Europe trying to be diplomatic and mend fences and there is the rumour that he will head home for the funeral? Umm, why even TRY to go through the United Nations if you go to a funeral that wasn't unexpected - within ten minutes of confirmation of the death, all the networks seemed to have a pinpoint accurate eulogy up and running. I do feel sorry for Raygun that he had Alzheimers the last few years - no one, not even Dubya deserves to lose their memory, but grr the Iran Contra thing and getting away scot free with it.

Reagan was the first President I remember, and basically only from the Challenger disaster, when he said the astronauts were kissing God or something. Didn't really notice another Prez until Bush Snr declared war on Iraq.

Smarty Jones lost the Triple Crown, although no doubt in fifty years time there will be a Seabiscuitish movie about him. D-Day commemorations in Normandy - hmm, not to demean what the Brits and Americans did, because it WAS important to open a second front and if they didn't the Iron Curtain may have been at the English Channel, but the turning point of the war was Kursk, if not even Stalingrad (if I'm not getting the battles of Kursk and Kharkov mixed up). The Soviets bled Germany white on the Eastern Front - sure they may have been commies, but they WERE the enemies the Germans were most afraid of. Yes, the Western Front was horrid and all, as all wars were/are, but it was kind of an afternoon tea versus what was going on (for the Germans) in the East from Stalingrad onwards.

And the thing that Overlord was the biggest invasion ever - may have been the biggest SEA-BORNE invasion, but umm Barbarossa anyone? One and a half million troops? And I have a feeling that the Soviet invasion of Poland and Germany from 1944 was even bigger?

Hmm, lol okies, that's enough of the world overview for now, just really one thing of interest happened this weekend - went out for a walk on Friday evening, because I was feeling suffocated in the house - my sister had a friend over and the place is small enough even with FOUR people in it, so I went out walking. Not quite seething for the first wee bit, but close. And then proceeded to disorientate myself getting east and west mixed up and then took ANOTHER wrong turn and started headed far inland. LOL five and a half hours later (no stopping, because if I had it just would have been worse starting up again) with only a vanilla Coke and a bag of jelly beans to keep me going, and getting lost a couple times more, I found my way home. Wasn't scared or anything, even though there have been quite a few random beatings in the city lately, just was tired but determined to get home the last couple hours.

Fun fun fun til daddy took the T Bird away LOL.

Til next time
