From Chicago to Ireland - Random Websites

Mmm, how much concentration on this can I do while I’m listening to Game Seven. Go Flames Go indeed!

076 - http://www.newcity.com/newcity/content/current/index.html

An old internet newspaper that isn’t printing anymore? Looks liberal left wing don’t believe the government kind of stories. But yes, is off line as it were, ‘new TV shows’ include Queer Eye, the OC… the Chicago site is still open though, anything interesting over there?

076a - http://www.newcitychicago.com/chicago/index.html

First thing I noticed here was the ad, 150 beers 150 whiskeys, at Delilah’s… do bars have websites? Only one way to find out LOL – oh, didn’t have to do a B entry, is an internal link. Best Rock and Roll Bar in Chicago apparently, going from punk to country LOL. Oh to be one of the lucky 300 million that can do that sort of stuff freely in the United States – oh, I just meant citizens didn’t I, now have to figure out between the rich and poor ones LOL. Sounds fun though… got a schedule listing… stormy and a top of 80 degrees in Chi-town. Love these sort of websites almost as much as arty sites LOL – reviews all over the place and what you can actually do in the city, museums, clubs, movies, music – and has a classifieds and rental housing link as well. Of course, you have to choose between the White Sox and the Cubs as a baseball team LOL (says the Mets supporter of course). If you wanna know what’s going on in Chicago, this looks a pretty good site…

077 - http://www.lauraburstein.com/

Who’s Laura Burstein, well I guess we are going to find out LOL. Writer and journalist in the San Francisco area, quite easy on the eye, has had a decade of media experience. A friend of mine gave me the phone number of the Australian School of Writing earlier in the day – would love to get into that (since I can’t get into REAL work – but I digress). Back to Ms Burstein – hmm has a book to sell on the front page, has a photo blog on the second, hmm I may have to get a textamerica account to say hi LOL. Some video footage on page three – not THAT kind of page three, not THOSE kind of videos. Some more photos on page four, going all the way back to babyness – lol there I go, inventing words again, oh she has been to NZ and Australia, you go girl LOL. Hmm, and there is an email address if I want to say hi – hmm too little personal information on there to really get an inkling of what Ms Laura is like – and I am too shy LOL. Mmm pics of a trip to Japan, am going all Lost in Translation here LOL.

078 - http://www.everything2.com/

Is this trying to be an open network sort of learning website, ie not attached to any of the REAL universities, the Linux of learning LOL. Let’s go to the FAQ – ahh, is a humorous place to post interesting stuff, information, art and humour. LOL better take on mission statement than some online communities I have seen, this may require further investigation. Hmm, I have been looking for an online community which is further than I’m right and you’re not kind of arguments in 90% of the forums lol, this will take a while to read… be back in a bit… lol, I like the phrase ‘we still have some old gang wars about abortion, religion…’ Could be good, but is very very wordy… maybe for later? Will fave it for a couple weeks perhaps, assessing whether to become a member or not… definitely a site of interest though, if anyone else who ever reads this decides to visit LOL.

Damn, Tampa are one nil up.

079 - http://toadornbeauty.cjb.net/

Hmm, not quite getting this site yet. Nope, too big a screen without a scroll function, next! Hmm, just a note, it changed my home page, not a good recommendation… doing a virus check for things at the moment.

080 - http://www.smallbrownbike.com/

As my heartbeat comes down from virus checking and Tampa going up two nil in the hockey, let’s see what this site is about. Hmm some band that disbanded in January just this one gone. Last concert was in Chicago, has a song listing of what was played. Wow, did a LOT of touring… quite a few releases as well… next!

081 - http://jaifarrell.tripod.com/

Hmm, an error page – tripod is one of those webpage hosting companies. Ad to set up a site, big ebay advertisement, and want to earn your college degree faster ads around, since there is no original content to look at LOL. Oh, and monster job searching, but nothing taking my fancy to link onto, so next…

082 - http://www.arbetaren.se/

What designation is SE – is that Swedish? Yep, must be – I see the word sverige there, and that’s Sweden in its home language. And at the bottom is a Stockholm address. Anyways, looks like a magazine along the lines of the Economist (ie not a newspaper but deals with current affairs) – the USA’s absurd Cuba policies, protests about Israel’s Gaza plan, and something about Iran, wow so easy to translate LOL. Next!

083 - http://www.twink.net/

The toy piano band. I don’t hold out much hope of anything earth shattering on this site LOL.

083a - http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/Twink/

Hmm, yes there is streaming mp3’s here, and god are they annoying, it IS toy piano stuff LOL. Back to the main page. Good for the kids with the short attention spans I think. Released a new album last month, no doubt with more tinny toy piano sounds LOL. Yah, looks like they are going for the kiddie market for real, rather than just ‘aving a larf about it all, or taking the piss. Good fun for the whippersnappers most likely LOL. Kid friendly site and they will enjoy the pretty colours…

084 - http://www.afterimagegallery.com/shots.htm

Ooh, my first double up – see 011 and 011a for details…

085 - http://www.asmallvictory.net/

Hmm, nice opening picture of kids on a baseball bench, but then it turns into a Republican weblog. It must be Republican, because it has a link to the RNC 2004 (this is the party going deep into enemy territory to milk sympathy for the President regards 9/11). And oh, is an official Dubya for Prez site as well eek. Lots of weeping for Reagan, and saying he didn’t say or do the evil things at all LOL. Eh, not gonna get involved in partisan politics in my own webdiary LOL. Just one side note on Reagan, being told that he caused the end of communism – umm excuse me, but he left in January 1989 and it might just be me being thirteen at the time, but was there ANY inkling at that stage that the Berlin Wall would fall? Let alone Tiananmen Square… umm, and let us not forget that it was the US that invented the atomic bomb, all this Commie baiting saying that oh dear the Russians will cause World War 3. I better get out of this site while I still can LOL. Oh, it gets worse, a FEMALE Republican. I did like the Darth Vader as the New York Yankees graphic though.

086 - http://www.grannyd.com/

Oh dear. Old lady picture up the top, Michael Moore trailer the first story, ‘Get Involved’ in big letters to the side. Gone from Republican to Democrat site in one step perhaps? Uh huh, Bush is mentally unstable, help in swing states. Trying to avoid politics at the moment, I’m sure ASV the last link is a nice woman, apart from her Republicanism, but yeah have to see who Doris is LOL. Have to do that at least. Ah, a liberal activist who at 89 walked from Pasadena to Washington DC for fourteen months. Something about stopping atmospheric nuclear tests in Alaska, and getting interested in campaign finance reform. Yes I know it is bad and all, but just the term campaign finance sends me to sleep LOL. Hmm, I guess she didn’t have much to do in her home state of New Hampshire, in 2001 she walked around the Capitol while the bill was being debated for seven days. She supports America’s working women hmm LOL. Has a pretty 23 year old assistant, where is that contact list LOL… Asheville NC, I have a friend that lives there, or at least lived there as a kid, is in Louisiana at the moment…

087 - http://www.kylesa.com/

Looks like a band weblog. Buy our album, buy some T-shirts, tour dates, that sort of stuff. Any inkling of what sort of music they play? Will go to the mp3 link and see what happens LOL. Or could be quicker just to read the reviews – stoner/doom metallers LOL, that’s descriptive enough for me… bleak messages yep yep – ‘thousand pound anvil on your chest while you are at the bottom of a pool’ - don’t think I need to hear it now, but for those of you out there reading this whose taste is heavier than mine, feel free to go for gold. From Savannah even, go Dogs go J

088 - http://www.supah.com/

Celebrity endorsement by Ozzy Osbourne – interesting first thing to notice on a site. Is an artist by the looks. I like the ‘Business Cat’ series LOL. She’s pretty good with her art (as I have said before, I am a sucker for artistic processes). Funny postcards as well. Funny weblog, and of course you can’t go wrong with an Ozzy endorsement LOL.

089 - http://www.virusmyth.net/aids/

Great, a conspiracy site about HIV/AIDS. Ah, support Mbeki by signing a petition – Mbeki is the South African president, who, while his country is dying around him, insists that HIV does not necessarily lead to AIDS. Yep, that’s the gist of the website, that HIV does not lead to AIDS. That HIV leads to AIDS merely because of all the toxic drugs that are pumped into HIV sufferers’ systems. 850 articles with 1200 pages linked in with this one, but I don’t really wanna stick around, and if anyone wants to, well the weblink is above. Ah, is an old site, the news section starts with April 2002. Next!

090 - http://www.irishexaminer.com/pport/web/irishexaminer/

Welcome to Ireland! I’m resisting breaking out into a stereotypical brogue, but will mention that Father Ted was one of the best comedies of the last umm ten years… news from a foreign angle that I can actually READ Woohoo. The Prime Minister not getting his way on decentralization of the public service, traffic congestion costing one of the bus companies millions of euros over three years – hmm, interesting has the Irish rugby link at the top of all the others, even the news LOL. A website/country with its priorities right! Hmm, there’s a story that may run and run, the low cost European airlines are all giving profit warnings due to the fuel prices and stock prices are plunging… hmm to go any further in I need to register, something to maybe keep in mind – Ireland was an interesting trip. Middle of winter, the girlfriend dumped me within ten minutes of getting there, and it was gray gray gray – apart from the half day we spent in Dublin, which was sunny. Was a very surreal experience though. LOL mentioning Tipperary in regards to hurling, has me thinking of that WW2 song.
