Anyone else notice how Dubya was listening quietly to the Pope during the Vatican visit? Even when John Paul was tearing strips off the Administration's Iraq policy? It must be good to be a foreigner who the President actually has to listen to, rather than be banded into the whole with us, against us or Axis of Evil tickbox.
Another Guardian story, this time about how Saudi Arabia is getting more and more uncertain. The actual phrase religious war comes up in this article, and yes, I know the stories have been going around probably ever since the militant siege in Mecca, but it is disturbing how attacks are basically becoming a weekly occurrence, ESPECIALLY when three out of four militants managed to get away from Saudi commandos last week.
Scary story (yes another Guardian one, the British paper that I found best suited my personality LOL) this one about travelling to the United States. I have always felt guilty, for no reason may I add, being in front of US Customs and Immigration officers. Scariest transits of my various travels - and yes, that includes Russia and Syria. At least with those countries you have a fair idea of what you are getting into - with the United States, it is as if they want to make you scared to get into the bastion of liberty and democracy and all that. Very strange - read the story.
Just noticed the time - am off to listen to the Stanley Cup Game Six, while reading these articles - gooooooo Calgary - LOL bring the Cup home before the strike LOL. Oh, could help by turning the volume up!
I was thinking of cut and pasting that LAX Journalist story out in full, because I'm so outraged by it, but I did that in another site, and eh, the response hasn't been stellar - they would sooner be talking about sex and football than civil rights LOL. Speaking of which, I could maybe get my readership up if I added a bit of sex, a la the Washingtonienne (lol blatant use of popular link time!).
Oh gods, OJ is going to be making a reality show apparently. Ten years next Saturday is when his wife and the new boyfriend were killed. God, he makes $25,000 a month as a football pension, and that is protected from the civil damages he has to pay. If he ever works again THEN he would have to start paying. Fuck, that is fucked up.
Nil all in the hockey by the way. Seven minutes left to go in the first period.
Mmm, any soccer fans around? Euro 2004 is starting next week, England v France on Saturday should be a good starter.
Okies, running out of steam here - back to listening to the hockey, have been reading stories about two hour delays for SCREENING at Atlanta airport, let alone the actual planes, and also how unpopular Dubya is in France (78% disapproval rating, only 48% say that France owes a moral debt to the USA - this on the eve of D-Day!), but yeah, mainly focused on the hockey at the moment - nil all at the first intermission...
Cheers
Paul
