France Two England One, but the French left it late, and unfortunately for my fantasy team, Henry didn't score LOL. The other result a draw between Switzerland and Croatia I predicted as well, just not quite right in the scoring (had France 3 2 over the Poms, and a 1 all draw instead of scoreless). Ooh, I would have hated to be in a London pub those last five minutes of the game - think it would have been worse than losing on a penalty shootout (which they did to the Argies in 1998). Emile Heskey gave away the first free kick goal - lol just gotta laugh at anything about the guy, he was torn to shreds in Guardian jokes during the last World Cup.
Am 8000th out of about 71,ooo in the predictions game - the fantasy team game is still updating, bleah. Not too shabby being in the almost top 10% LOL. But shouldn't have given my double points game to Portugal Greece, was considering that or Czech Latvia game and wanted the points to be sorted out earlier, that's basically the only reason I went with Portugal as the joker, can I take it to the European Court of Arbitration please LOL LOL, I really want a JVC 42 inch TV or camcorder!
A meteorite falls to the ground in Auckland. Crashes through a roof into the living room LOL. Was apparently going at 500 kays an hour when it dropped down, that would have given ya a headache LOL. The odds of a house being hit are about the same as winning the lottery, but hmm space rock would be worth a bit on the ebay market I am sure! Another suicide bomber in Iraq, twelve dead there, another interim government official assassinated, not good news... Secretary of State Powell said it was difficult to protect an entire government - will get worse before it gets better I think. Less Americans dying but just as much chaos.
I heard on the radio this morning that in Poland there was between fifteen and twenty percent voter turnout in the European elections. That is appalling for a new member to be that disinterested in what is going on in Brussels, but then again somewhat understandable, with twenty percent unemployment, and I think I heard a couple weeks ago that the President resigned and the Prime Minister was in danger of being impeached? Let's get some facts here LOL.
More sport and surprise surprise Michael won another Grand Prix, this time in la belle province, Montreal leg of the tour and all. Good to see Coulthard actually getting in the points, even if it is behind his team mate. As feared, but not quite expected by me, New Zealand lost the third cricket test against England and thus a whitewash of the series. Let's talk about the rugby again shall we LOL.
Bleah, a vote for separatists is not a vote for separatism, according to Bloc Quebec leader Duceppe. How disingeneous is that? If the BQ sweeps Quebec, first thing on a lot of minds will be when the next referendum will be. Eh, most politicians get under my skin lol, so I shouldn't really be beating up on the Bloc alone. But they are the only ones on the market at the moment that think of their own province/state so virulently that they ignore the rest of the country.
Let's see what the coverage today is like on CBC and CTV - yeah, I'm not Canadian I know, but I am very interested in all aspects of the country... have been ever since wandering into the Canadian pavilion at World Expo 88 in Brisbane in surprise surprise 1988. That's the first impression Canada made on me, and yes, it was a good one. LOL my mother thinks that it is just a bigger version of New Zealand with First Nations instead of Maori, and there is a hint of truth about that, but there's just something about north of 49 that intrigues me, and that goes beyond the fact that I've had two serious relationships with Canucks LOL.
Reading the Guardian footy reports for today now. Always get quite a giggle out of them. Just started on the France England report, it will all end in tears I am sure.
Okies, time to split for a bit again, have slowed down in the Guardian and New York Times, but there aren't any stories reaching out and grabbing me LOL - maybe need more coffee?
More later
Paul
