Right, let's get right into it - Germany nil Latvia nil, Czech Republic three Holland two - the score draws are, the no score draws are - LOL a throwback there to listening to the BBC football reports of the early nineties, I think the only way Brits could legally gamble way back when was to bet on which games in the football would be draws or not. Or I could be wrong, anyways I know that the above was the way they reported the games. So Group D eh - Czech are through, and now it's going to be a toss up between Germany, Holland or even Latvia who gets through with them.
36 to 12, 36-12, 72-15 over two games and you can't even score a try, 36 to 12 LOL. If you are not interested in rugby, that was just the score in game two New Zealand v England. Hmm, world champions indeed, if we had just gotten through to the final LOL - famous last words and all. Oh, I must have missed that, lol apparently England were down to fourteen men for seventy minutes - ah well, rolling my eyes here, maybe they were better in the second game then - you can't usually play all that good with one less player for that amount of time. Mmm, just reading that Henry (NZ coach) is saying that Mehrts may get a start next week woohoo - Argentina up next, after they got pummelled by Wales hmm.
Last thing for sport today - the United States Grand Prix qualifying session. Mmm, Indianapolis - Barrichello has pole, Michael has second, that will be an interesting burn off to the first corner (yes, they have corners at Indy for the F1 at least). And good to see that the Formula One circus will continue coming to Indy for at least another two years, and perhaps longer. Not to take away from all the Nascar and IRL fans out there, but Formula One IS the best four wheeler racing around. Perhaps rallying as a closeish second!
Onto the news - missile attack in Fallujah. Lots of civilian casualties, and you know what the reporting of this sounds like to me, Israel pummelling the Gaza Strip with the random missile attacks they have there. Ick, if Iraq is gonna become a big Gaza... hmm, that's something I hadn't heard, there is actual ground fighting going on as well, into its fourth day around Buhriz and Tahrir, near Baquba. It is sounding very much I would imagine (since I can't remember them myself) daily reports from Vietnam, where one battle melds seamlessly into others and you start losing track... what with the 9/11 report coming out, and Saudi Arabia descending into well not chaos but mini anarchy - shoot out in central Riyadh may have taken out that cell that executed that American yesterday.
Oh, here's the animal story of the day - there is a lost whale on the British Columbia (Canada) coast - the scientists are trying to get it out to open water, but the First Nation tribe is saying it is the spirit of a former chief. Hmm, interesting LOL. Not saying nuffin else about it, but yeah, like I said, animal story of the day. Oh, lol there is a Rescue Luna link on the Vancouver Aquarium site - mmm, cute animal photos all over this site, I love nature photos - no, must get back to the depressing news LOL. May fave the site though, for further investigation later.
Eww, the Patriot Act. Not only can they figure out your reading habits and stuff, but also check on your laundry lists and pizza orders. Yay for Alaska, Hawaii, Maine and Vermont, having legislation against it. LOL in the story it compares Berkeley with Nebraska hmm, surprise surprise there are differences in attitude towards civil liberties between them - oh, I guess that's not fair, just as much difference in attitude towards threat of terrorism to be more fair about things.
Just five minutes after me reading about that Canadian whale story, it was on the local radio news here - well the international section of the local radio news. Weird and spooky LOL - they must be reading the same websites as me...
Hmm, Gilles Duceppe (Bloc leader) says that Harper of the Conservatives doesn't understand Quebec, its people or its culture - does Duceppe understand anything of English Canada, apart from how to manipulate it? Pot calling the kettle black methinks, and how many freaking confidence issues can a minority party have LOL - mmm the gun registry, how did a small $2 million cost balloon to $1 billion. Just another of the accounting wonders of Canada the last few years LOL. Eh, its not hockey season anymore, what does Canada do in summer and fall LOL, politics is as interesting as anything else I guess LOL.
Ah, here's a follow up to that story I mentioned yesterday - about the whole Martin camp saying the Chretien camp is sabotaging the campaign. All kiss and make up today, awww isn't that nice LOL. Okies, that is enough of Canadian politics for me for today methinks.
Just when I think that Important People operate in too much of a bubble anyways (G7, EU conferences, major sports events, half of Washington DC all have HUGE security operations), the UK Parliament is considering making most of Westminster another security zone. LOL, maybe they should do that more with the Big Brother house - I think I told you they had a real riot there the other day? Mmm, just remembering I saw Davina McCall on Parkinson last night, she's quite scrummy - as is Sarah McLaughlin, who was also on Parky - and got the Canadian chill down my back when watching her sing - the nice kind of chill I mean, thinking of how nice the country is blah blah.
Anyways, back to the story about Big Brother, saying that reality TV has run its course - I still like Survivor and the singing shows, but BB 24/7 coverage maybe not. Back to more interesting and worthy things - all the European leaders patting each other on the back about the Euro constitution - fuck I hate that coverage, they should wait until the public starts supporting them before they get out the banner headlines. How many of the referendums that are going to be run on it (citizen participation) are going to pass? And more importantly, how many people will vote, with more people unemployed in Poland than actually voted in the MEP elections just gone... rant rant rant LOL.
LOL, quiet week in the Observer, it must be time to fill in space with another Elgin Marbles story LOL. For those of you who don't know, the Brits took the best marble carvings from the Parthenon in Athens a couple hundred years ago, and they are in the British Museum in London, and the Greeks have asked like forever for them back, but the Brits won't. Think it's in the Museum constitution or something that the Marbles won't ever go back - kind of like the monkey's in Gibraltar LOL (if the monkeys leave Gibraltar, so must the British is the legend). I guess it is long since past that the Ottomans or Turks would bomb the Parthenon, but lol not taking a position on this one. Strictly between the Brits and Greeks.
This is an interesting story - saying how Kurds are migrating back south of the 'Green Line' into Arab Iraq, well, the land was Kurdish before Saddam had a hissy fit against them. Is there a noticeable difference apart from language between Kurds and Arabs in Iraq? Hmm, that's a thought to maybe keep hold of.
Olympic torch is in New York - awww that's a nice thought, the Olympics - just hope it has more of Sydney about it than Munich.
Hmm, just a quick aside, made an optometrist appointment for Tuesday after work, will hopefully sort out my eyesight then. Just to get that monkey off my back, lol and then can work on the gorilla of my debt bleah.
And finally, off on my little space exploration for the day - god I love space exploration LOL. No updates on the Cassini homepage today, let's see if there are any new pics or what is happening over on JPL - hmm, maps of Africa, comet make up, Cassini and the Mars rovers, nothing new today.
More tomorrow
Paul
