And I don't know why. Did work ACTUAL WORK today, with five people over my shoulders, we had three goes at that and probably two tomorrow, each person taking a turn and bleah all the flashing buttons didn't make me happy LOL. I just wanted to keep pressing them and they led to mistakes quick ones - not irretrievable but annoying. And my contact lenses have been annoying the fuck out of me the last couple of days, lucky that the new ones have just come in on order. Will go pick them up probably tomorrow after work. And the tiredness and stuff just exacerbates the cabin fever of living with your family. My sister complaining and parents coughing constantly, when you are frazzled like I am at the moment, it doesn't take much.
LOL and another for instance, instead of watching the news, saying oh, the Sixties at Six radio show has a special on the Beatles, let's listen to that instead. Umm, whatever LOL.
Anyways, back to work socialising LOL. Yesterday before work was caught by Lexi coming from the station, then almost sat down with Kim, Wayne, Sharon and Anne before heading up to the office. Morning tea yesterday was with Mel and Sharon, lunch was with Kim - talked movies even LOL - always a good sign of a friendship progressing when talking movies - not that we are umm real friends yet, still just workmates :) well at least in my mind, been there done that fucked up before LOL. But yeah, talking movies and music always a good default option.
Hmm, think I stayed upstairs for arvo tea yesterday? Can't remember, anyhows, this morning was sitting down with Sharon and Ann again, Rachel and Wayne turned up with Starbucks, and Kim wandered past :) Didn't go down for morning tea, but went and got lunch with Rachel, Ann and Sharon, although kinda lost them on the way back LOL.
Danielle waved at me - and I stepped up my pace to catch the lift with her LOL. Didn't get a chance to say hi or anything, others were in the lift and I am still very much the newbie, but somehow I lost Rachel, Ann and Sharon. Got up to the third floor and got Paulied by Mel and Lisa :) Actually am getting a lot of Paulies lately from workmates - schweet LOL.
Umm and then arvo tea was with Mel and Sharon again. And walked part of the way to the station with Mel and Lisa. Hardly spoke to Kim or Rachel all day...
The Canadian election wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be LOL - well it was, but the result could have been more exciting LOL. Okies, that's the last couple of days covered, can go off to bed and have a headache and then restart afresh tomorrow - speaking diary wise that is :)

A New Tribe Member
LOL - going with the Survivor motif today instead of Big Brother for work today. Ladies and gentlemen, the new contestant is Konrad - who was in the last training group that just got promoted so I'm not quite sure whether he came in late to that group or just didn't quite hit the relegation promotion sweet spot LOL. Seems nice enough, had a quick talk at lunch, but mainly his socialising time was spent with oldbies LOL. Or so it appeared.
Started the day by having the usual before work ten minutes with Ann and Sharon - Wayne and Kim wandered over just as the three of us were getting up to get to work. Is only a three minute trip from the coffee shop :) And got to the top, everyone arrived on time amazingly, and then we sorted out our own seating arrangement (with me with Wayne, Jo and Ann), but apparently we had been assigned seats and we couldn't really go forward with any REAL training until we resat ourselves LOL. And of COURSE the person with the seat allocation was away today, and we had to do eLearn, which is basically reading lots of Powerpoint shows and doing questionnaires on them. ALL FUCKING DAY lol. Was a lot of fun, not... there was a bit of a burst when we logged into the normal puter systems, but we didn't do anything with it LOL.
So yeah, the interesting times were the socialising moments. Had morning tea sitting with Kim, Mel and Lisa - lunch was with Rachel, Sharon, Kim and Konrad - and arvo tea was with Kim and Lexie - hmm, theme of the day perhaps LOL? Was nice talking to her, and was thinking of adding her to the email thinking list (not necessarily sending but at least thinking of sending), when I was thinking though, our coach was at her desk trying to sort things out systems wise. Did a BA in Media Studies, and yes, I asked what did that set you up for :) has nice eyes and a nice smile - and yes Paul, I realise what's happened in the past with workplace infatuations - not even gonna go there since I'm NOT LOOKING lol!
And this arvo, thought long and hard before sending a thank you email to my trainers over the last couple of weeks. Not enough simple thank yous said in the workplace nowadays, but there is a fine line between sending those emails because you believe in saying thanks and sending those emails cos you like the look of your own typing, if you know what I mean. Sent with the best of intentions of course, but one of those difficult emails to write well - think I did it though, and see what happens from there. LOL don't have to have the thought I didn't thank them preying on my mind now.
Think that's about it for now, unless I bring out the news and linking skills again. Canadian election results tomorrow WOOHOO exciting, and yes I really mean that LOL.
Talk later peeps

Family News
Just a quick one - OMG I'm gonna be an uncle, now is that a scary thought or is that a scary thought. And no, despite everyone wondering if my sister Francine had had the immaculate conception, it is my brother Alex and his girlfriend Pam that are preggers :) So yes, another little *insert surname here* running around the world - lol my brother is from the sane side of the family, don't worry about that LOL :)

Ohh Mah Puir Wee Heid
LOL as said in a bad Scottish accent. Went out, had a few beers (when I shouldn't really be having any, damned anti epilepsy pills), and came home. Coming home was OK apart from talking to the best friend on the phone quite loudly LOL.
OK, so more detail requested? Let's go for gold. Went into town to try and catch the All Blacks Argentina match, the 'rugby' bar in town was getting the live feed from the Cowboys Bulldogs league game instead, for fecks sake LOL - and anyways, really needed to line my stomach with food, drinking on an empty stomach. Had wandered to KFC in one of the shopping malls, but it was closed before heading to that rugby bar.
Wandered over to Hungry Jacks, had a Whopper Cheese combo, and then went downstairs in Wintergarden to there's an Irish bar down there, and found a screen with the All Black match on. Seven all when first I got there, but the boys (Mehrtens as five eighth) slowly got into gear, and was sitting there by myself rather bored. Lo and behold, the guys across from me were really loud - three Brits and a couple Aussies. The Aussies went off to the game at Suncorp (Lang Park) and the whole usual bored at halftime thing, I started talking to the Brits - from Newcastle, Geordies and all, Mark, Leon and Scott.
After chatting for a bit, they asked where the best bar to watch rugby was, and I said (in my knowing only about four bars in Brisbane way so any locals reading, please don't lynch me LOL) the Exchange, where I had been before. So we wandered over there, and they met Jimmy, from London. I took an instant dislike to him, for some reason - just as I had been saying to Mum the other day that I don't take instant dislikes to anyone LOL, well I did with Jimmy. Had the persona of a wanker basically, lol was going to mention used car salesman or politician, but lol despite their hardships you gotta give those two professions SOME credit LOL.
Jimmy initially said he had been with an Aussie bird for five years back home and ten years here, although he hated Australia. He then said he had only spent two months in Brisbane (guess he could have spent the other nine and a bit years somewhere else), but had left the wife and kid at home while he was on the piss (and pull as his actions showed LOL). Telling the boys about shagging stories in Brisbane, and saying yeah I can have you sorted job and accommodation wise, getting their number but not giving them his - something dodgy about that. And part of his helping out was to keep a gentleman's agreement that they were only out drinking tonight (again, inference that he was on the pull). Know what I mean geez? LOL has been a long time since I heard that phrase ten times in five minutes!
Anyways, stood with them drinking (slowly, but more than my best practise one), England were getting flogged, and Jimmy said to me you want a bit do you my son, there's a girl over there that is keen on you - and I said sure, I wasn't going to go THAT far, but meeting new people is always nice - so yeah, I wandered over, and basically he must have talked to the group of girls before and wanted me as a wingman. Anyways, met Skye and Catherine and I forget the name of the other one, brunette and cute anyways. Skye was the one that I was wingmanning for him, and she seemed nice, and genuinely interested in me, they were all cute, and Skye was a bit larger, but eh, no worries for me, especially in friend making.
Skye was the rugby buff, and the other two were AFL fans I think, who only watched rugby internationally. So yeah, made small talk with Skye and a bit with Catherine, who was the loud one of the group, said to Skye is she always like this, uh huh was the reply LOL, no voice level meter for that girl. So yeah, the game ended, I hadn't really noticed it for a while, but the Poms got a right flogging, and Skye was watching intently. The game ended, and the other two girls got up to the dancefloor, Skye went to get a drink and then when passing me said do you want to come up to the floor LOL - sure, I'm happy doing that and wandered up. The brunette one was bopping away to herself in the little circle, and things were going OK LOL.
Then they asked what are your plans for the rest of the night Paul, and I said I'm easy, if you want me to stick with you fine if not that's fine as well, and they said oh don't you wanna go tell your Pommie mates - and I said nah I had just met them that night - oh Jimmy didn't get anywhere with his wingmanning, LOL the body language was just fucked up towards him, wanker LOL - and then they asked did you come into town by yourself, and I said yes - and this was the moment I should have said, well I have only just gotten to Brisbane I haven't made a heap of friends yet - but I didn't, I said I came in for the All Blacks match - and then it was bye Paul (god you are a loser they were probably thinking, coming in by yourself you just want to get laid was another probably thought), although Skye might have said, I was getting on really well with him guys, and you chased him off. Eh, I was only in the market for friends anyways LOL, and it was a pleasant half an hour with them, but eh, could have been even more pleasant going to their friend's housewarming with them.
Eh, no regrets though, I didn't do anything wrong or stupid :)
Then bumped into a guy who was saying that Andrew Mehrtens is the best first five ever, and this was from an Aussie, and then he said come around my side of the bar, will introduce you to my mates - and having nothing better to do at that time, that's what I did. Danny was this guy's name, and him and his mates were all in the twenty year old range. Very very loud, but quite entertaining, in a loud Australian kind of way. Liam, one of his mates was fucking entertaining, acting like God's gift, and yes, we were at that stage of the evening where bad flirting was the funniest thing ever. Got a massage from a girl (better than those ones going around selling roses LOL - yeah, I paid for it and everything, biggest expense of the evening), and then was clockwatching basically, wondering when the last train home left and stuff like that. Was tipsy enough to have a smoke lol, stupid stupid boy, and left the bar at about 11.30 - having had a really good night, thanks Skye LOL LOL.
On the way home got the munchies and had a pizza slice AND a Filet O Fish combo before getting on the train. Got home at ten to one around about, and was fairly quiet getting in, until I got on the phone to the best friend to tell her how my evening went - slipping in and out of nonsense or sleep as well LOL.
So yeah, biggest night I have had in a while, and totally enjoyable, yes even meeting Jimmy the Creep LOL - know what I mean?
LOL

WebSurfing for the Day
Not sure how long this surfing session will last, because I'm getting bored with linking the soccer (can just say the result, Greece beat France OMG), but this is an interesting one - woman who was diagnosed with cancer, and made a few embryos with her partner before getting treatment and being infertile has been refused to use the embryos now because her partner is now an ex and refuses permission. Sad sad, and is part of the IVF embryo legislation in the UK - like her lawyer said, normal conception women don't need the guys permission to keep the baby. And not only is the ex refusing permission but he wants the embryos destroyed as well. Eh, goes to show the modern day permanence of relationships.
Wow, Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond sang together for the first time since the Carter Administration. Part of the Hollywood fundraiser for Kerry - had Billy Crystal, Ben Affleck, Leo Dicaprio, Willie Nelson and a host of others LOL. On the other side of the fence, the Republicans are going to close down part of Manhattan during their conference in August. That will be so convenient, and just wondering when US politicians were last allowed to meet the actual public rather than just a screened minority. Eh, probably since someone tried to take out Reagan. Hmm, and where did the figure the convention will benefit NYC by $250 million come from? Is that $249 million that's going to be fundraised and one mill for the city LOL?
Eh, gotta go before I bore myself

Yesterday At Work
LOL and I thought waiting around, not jumping into answers in ten seconds in the training was like pulling teeth. By that I mean that there are about three of us who volunteer information like that *snaps fingers* when asked, and the rest kind of lay back and let the questions slide. When I feel like being quiet, which is often, because I don't want to appear the dominant one in a classroom environment, it can sometimes take ten seconds for any of the seven others to pipe up.
Maybe it's an adult version of childhood anxiety disorder LOL - was on TV last night, when kids talk at home but not at school - selective autism some dickhead was calling it, geez in the old days (pre 90s LOL) it was just called shyness?
Anyways, back to work - we had about an hour of training all up yesterday, on hierachies in some system or other as well as some other stuff, but then it was like they didn't know what to do with us, so we were scattered around the building sitting next to people to observe their work. Not even in a trainer trainee relationship, just to keep us occupied and out of trouble for the day I think. So yeah, that was most of the day and all of us (when we talked, or should I say conferenced at lunch) were bored out of our trees, as I guess were the people we sat with. By the end of it I only had a quarter brain attention on what I was supposed to be doing, and listening out more for what was around me. Hearing the hum of a normal working office, has been too long :)
LOL I seemed to get the person that was more interested in working than gossiping when I sat with her, and two of her pod buddies were great gossipers, dammit - quite nice lookers as well. We found out where we were going to be for next week, and had a chat to the trainees that are becoming team members moving out of that area. One girl was going to Novo (which is our project) and seemed nice (well everyone does to me first impressions) but eh, just more names for her to get mixed up, especially if we make it and don't see her for ten weeks.
Oh, and somehow I became alpha person of the group, or maybe more to the point the one that tries to organise things and gets trampled over LOL. Because we left the training room in such a rush, no one looked like picking up our timesheet, so muggins here decided to do it - was alright and stuff, until towards the end of the day, when five of my fellow intake decided to check their timesheet at once, in the pod of the REAL workers, I was like thinking please be considerate, and if I had thought quickly enough would have taken the sheet over to an emptier part of the floor (which had just been vacated for us).
And then had trouble faxing through the timesheet at work, cos lol I think HAL out of 2001 was controlling the fax machine (which was also a printer and coffee maker and controller of the other scientists in statis LOL) and I tried to fax three times and it wouldn't go through - of course the first two times I faxed the wrong number LOL. And then I had Lisa behind me sending a couple of faxes for her 'buddy' herself and saying I am so over today and this week and all. And Rachel had said at lunchtime make sure you fax it from work blah blah, when I have a perfectly good fax that I have a fair idea of operating from home bleah. So yeah, in the end gave up on the work fax, gave up on work for the week - Lisa's thinking was rubbing off on me, and headed home. Bumped into Lexi and Wayne on the train platform and they were pretty scathing about the whole structure of today, and said that Rachel had been in a strop - five of us were on level two, five on level seven, Lexi, Wayne and Rachel were on seven LOL.
Came home, faxed the things off as soon as I got in the door, slumped into the chair for about half an hour, talked to Mum and Dad, and then watched the news, Big Brother and then netted a bit. Bumped into one of my best friends from Saskatoon of all places, for the third time this week - before that had been a HUGE drought of contact. Did I mention that I was in Saskatoon (again, of all places) when the latest Iraqi war broke out? Only place more surreal for that to happen in March last year was when we were in Sault Ste Marie LOL. Biggest shopping mall in northern Ontario indeed...
And then bumped into a new potential friend from Maryland. I don't make all that many new friends online anymore, too close to the bad old days of needing so much attention assurance whatever, but occassionally the last few months there have been exceptions. Maryland being one of them - the clincher for us to start talking was that she has the Robotech DVD collection - some crappy 80s cartoon that I used to watch as religiously as some people watched Melrose or Dallas LOL. Silly Paul... and the convo went from there :)
Also my friend Miss (or Mrs as my best friend reminds me) Texas wandered on for a couple minutes, but she was just starting her work day, and things are going pear shaped at her work, she said she would probably have to let a couple of people go today, and she's not really keen on that. Hope things work out for her, and the business at least stays afloat (with her in it). Fingers crossed.
So yes, that was my day yesterday, any questions LOL

Canuckle Election
Hi all - only three days to go until the biggest competition this week - the Canuckle Elections! A few good stories, a few bleah ones (Quebec nationhood by 2009 - NOT!) - tightest election campaign in years and that BC may be important in the whole scheme of things, rather than the 905 LOL.
Okies, enough of that, let's get to THAT KICK by David Beckham, the first penalty of the shootout - England lost of course, when was the last time they DID win a shootout LOL.
Think that's about all off the top of my head for this evening - will talk about work today tomorrow morning, lol never send an angry email before u can sleep on it if possible.
Paul :)

perhaps an interesting aside?
Just a quick paragraph today - did I mishear, or as I walked out of the room saying goodnight to our trainer yesterday, did Danielle say see you later HUN (emphasis my own LOL)? She was winking and smiling all over the place, but to say that with a few of my fellow employees around hmm...
England 1 - Portugal 1, going into extra time LOL - penalty shoot out anyone?
Spot ya later tonight

Today Was A Good Day
Hi all – today was good. Started off with listening to Kid A again on the CD player – always reminds me of my first trip to Vancouver Island and the whole Heide good holiday (as opposed to the Heide bad Northern Ireland trip) – driving back from Campbell River starting to drift asleep in the back, or to listen to it while I was under the plaster, with a breathing snorkel out LOL.
Then switched to Oasis Morning Glory, and that reminds me so much of the Crescent Arms in Croydon, my second attempt at a pub job – bleah in hindsight of course. Great great happy music, and when listening to Oasis was cool, or at least not not cool LOL.
And then into work, walked up with Jo today, who thought hmm the train she got that day was too early, getting to the office ten minutes before we needed to. Swapped the soccer results LOL, and then waited ten minutes for the training to start.
Rushed down to Wintergarden for my latest eye appointment, and took a long time to put the disposable lenses in – something was up with that LOL, with my latest crush, and then decided to follow through with ordering the glasses, damn they look good at the moment, hope they do when the glass is added. Kat, the sales assistant likes me I think LOL, and not just cos it’s a good sale.
And then back to finish off work, can’t get to Ann Street from Queen Street in five minutes I discovered, and Jo during arvo tea was discussing gyms with Wayne, Rachel, Kim and Lisa and said with the short time we will have for lunch from non-training time on, it looked like I had had a good enough work out coming back from Queen Street.
Why I haven’t actually mentioned anything about the content of work is because a) we didn’t really need it, and b) our trainer was quite a distracting character LOL LOL. We didn’t need it because it was telephone and communication training, yes you can be told the scripts and preferred words and all, but at the core of things, you are either good on the telephone or bad – you can modify slowly and over time, but the core of you never changes.
And yes, the distracting trainer – Danielle LOL, what can I say… cute, funny, outrageous flirt (well, she was winking and smiling all over the place in between the actual training bits), and I am sure would have a million funny stories. Very personable, in two words. Oh, and apparently single – hmm, that just sorted out in my mind that I will send a thank you email to all the trainers, and see what progresses from there – too bad Danielle likes the uniforms too much LOL – Defence Force is also in our building (two floors) – and is in Billing (we will be in Activations).
So yeah, as I come down from thinking about that smile (and you should all know me, I smile/flirt as good as I get LOL), listening to Oasis on the train home. Have a new latest crush, see ya Ms Optometrist Girl LOL LOL.

Pretty Much Pure Evil
How on earth can you appeal against being convicted of four murders, six rapes, six counts of torture? This story is blowing my mind, that Belgian guy who is the most hated person in that country at the moment - eh, he won't get it...
Yay, Holland are through to the quarter finals, too bad Germany - some good games in the quarter finals, but how the heck did Greece get through?
Okies, just a quick one this morning - talk to you all later (lol my legion of fans yeah right)

Nice Story, Nice Pic
This is a story about an albino whale, and an awesome picture in it. Just thought I would give a shout out to umm publicise it? Worthy of greater exposure, better than Iraq, terrorism, elections, blah blah.
Sleepy
Hi all - Kid A by Radiohead is an album to listen to while you are alone in a darkened room - not an album to listen to while its daylight and there are the constant distractions of who is going to get on at the train stations LOL. Was listening to it on the way home.
(Was trying to find a better website for that album, but the official Radiohead site is a bit weird LOL, surprise surprise)
Am really really tired for some reason, I'm not sure why - managed to get off work an hour early today because the systems were done - only managed to get home three quarters of an hour earlier because of the train scheduling - had to have a filet o fish at Maccas in the break time I just HAD to LOL. Actually went onto the live system today rather than just being in training modules, which was nice LOL.
Spent lunch with Lexi, Sharon, Ann and Kim, and apart from that the only socialising was in class LOL. Not sure what Mel's 'onya Paul' meant, lol felt like I was the nark of the class LOL LOL - oh, I'm sure she was being nice Paul. Getting on well with all of them I think, no one jumping most to mind in how I'm getting on with them, maybe Rachel (who was in today), who I walked to the train station with today.
Another optometrist appointment tomorrow (free, just to check how a contact lens sits on my eye) to see my latest crush LOL - hope they let us out at twelve for lunch tomorrow - and also will drop off her letter to my agency, so they do know I'm doing something about my 'problem'. I put it in the '' thing because my sight hasn't actually changed that much.
Had money going into my account this morning, which was very very nice - now, don't blow it Paul LOL. Contact lenses, glasses, debt, trip to Bali lol, not necessarily in that order LOL LOL.

Isn't Lay-By Grand?
Hmm, so yeah, first thing off the top of my head this evening is the fact that I saw some classy glasses in the optometrist store this evening, when I went in for my appointment. The glass is gonna be hella expensive, but the frames are classy and on sale, AND I can do eight weeks layby, putting 20% down first thing (when/if I decide to buy them). If you didn't know, I have a HUGE chip on my shoulder about wearing my glasses, big ugly things that they are - and this potential replacement pair are small and classy and very nice. Armani as well LOL.
The optometrist I have/had is a girl LOL, quite pretty in the nerdy kinda way. And talks at my level about sight and stuff, lol common sense and layman's talk and all that, rather than all the guff of talking scientifically. And yes, I have another crush - hmm have there been any songs about Celia's before LOL LOL. Ordered new contact lenses, and as noted before, am keen on getting real glasses as well. Real and classy that I'm not ashamed of wearing of course - lol, who needs anti depressants, I have new glasses LOL LOL.
Work today was reasonable - had a good trainer, who was very realistic and mocking about how it is to be a newbie, and wandered off in conversation more than a few times. And basically said to us that we would be asleep at 2.00pm so when we got there he gave us basically an hour of non brain deadening guff lol. And then we got stuck on trying to get onto the live system as ourselves rather than trainees.
Wayne solved most of the techie issues, he is in the good books again. Mel has been quiet so far this week - at least to me. Lexi is opening up, even though she is a Collingwood supporter LOL, Rachel was away sick again today, Jo, Anne and Sharon are still what they were at my last report, and Lisa and Kim are being more talkative around me. Although our trainer said that on average two out of each ten trainees drop out in the first couple of months, they can't hack the Telstra pace? You're kidding?? What pace LOL LOL. Show initiative, be positive and proactive and you can be made permanent easily.
When you can take the pebble from my hand, it will be time for you to go grasshopper indeed LOL. That's a great line...
Oh, and got the letter from my new crush/optometrist to give to the agency to say that I am doing my best regards the eyesight crap. If they aren't happy that I'm getting the best sight I can then hmm that's discrimination? Now there's an out there thought Paul if you can't even get Medicare over here LOL, yes what are the chances you can get and afford a lawyer LOL.
Hmm, Iran has arrested eight UK Marines it says were in it's territorial waters. In the area that started the Iran Iraq war in the 80s, fingers crossed it goes well and doesn't snowball from where it is currently, international incident wise.
LOL, now this is a weird issue to bring out in the middle of the election, Air Canada and bilingualism - of course, talking about uni or bi lingualism in the public service is taboo, but bringing up a sinking airline and a side issue of how it is sinking, and shaking my head here in incomprehension as to why it is an issue. All that stuff is for after the election surely? Ah well, I see the Bloc is finding ANOTHER confidence issue, the Air Canada headquartering in Montreal issue LOL. Less than a week until election day, and still seems to be too close to call. Not even going to mention the Bloc saying that the nation doesn't recognise June 24 as anything other than a Quebecker holiday. Not even going to mention it at all LOL.
Hmm, that's about me for the night, will spot you all later LOL

We Love You Rooney We Do, Oh Rooney We Love You
No doubt that refrain will be reverberating in the bars from Dover to Newcastle LOL - England getting up over the Croats after a tough first half 4-2 - and also France through, 3-1 over the Swiss, after another difficult first half. England v Portugal and France v Greece I think the quarters on that side of the draw will be. And Henry scored a couple goals, that will be good for my fantasy football LOL - will check after work, doubt it will be updated already.
Hmm, a cyclist in Australia got a life ban for drug taking - his first offence it seems. Not that he should have been doing them, but I thought it was an automatic two years out for your first offence, but he has accused other cyclists here of drug taking as well - it seems the AOC is just punishing him for talking about the others, but I'm reading he may get a reduced sentence if he names names - not in the same league, but shades of Gitmo Bay about having the book thrown at you for a first offence. Any comments Marion Jones LOL? Oh, or Shane Warne as well.
Good to see the private sector making its first mark in space, with Space Ship One (geez sounds like Thunderbirds with the name LOL) getting to the edges of space. Have to go to the Cassini website to get my fix for the morning LOL - and then off to work and optometrist appointments and all bleah. See how it goes.

Monday Need Coffee
This should be a good start to the entry. What an awesome picture.
Footy and Portugal and Greece are through from Group A, Spain and Russia are out. The Mets swept Detroit, and are back to .500 - now can the boys break that and get into and stay in positive territory LOL, I don't actually hold out much hope, but eh, miracles could happen. England v Croatia tonight and all the Three Lions, Vindaloo, They Think It's All Over, It Is Now guff is consuming the nation I bet. Michael won another Formula One, surprise surprise, but I saw bits and pieces of it early this morning (the US GP) and demolition derby stuff - glad that Ralf survived his crash, looked pretty bad for about five minutes there.
Okies out of the sport and into real life for a paragraph or two. My brain is hurting as much as it did last Wednesday I think. We had some more database training today and it was such a dry dry topic and not to put our trainer down but she had such an easy voice to nod off to LOL. Nice enough woman, but we really had to concentrate on what she was saying. Had the usual pre kick off sit down with Sharon and Ann, and then sat with Lisa and those two again at lunchtime. I had to devour a sausage roll LOL I know there is crap meat in them but I was in the Zone for sausie rolls LOL. Jo was her usual nice self, Rachel was out of sorts and went home at lunchtime, ill, and had my first conversation with Kim - talking about how braindead we were and how dry the topic was as we headed off for lunch. Another good socialising day - well compared to the five months before LOL.
Got my eye doctor appointment tomorrow - hope I can get the glasses and contacts without it being too expensive, but of course I need a bit of style in the frames LOL LOL. Just hope that I am awake enough after work by the time the appointment comes around - and that I remember to go LOL instead of go directly to the train station...
Same old same old with the news, haven't gotten to the Guardian yet tonight but will probably give it a miss LOL - well for the diary entry anyways.

Germany or Holland Hmmm
Right, let's get right into it - Germany nil Latvia nil, Czech Republic three Holland two - the score draws are, the no score draws are - LOL a throwback there to listening to the BBC football reports of the early nineties, I think the only way Brits could legally gamble way back when was to bet on which games in the football would be draws or not. Or I could be wrong, anyways I know that the above was the way they reported the games. So Group D eh - Czech are through, and now it's going to be a toss up between Germany, Holland or even Latvia who gets through with them.
36 to 12, 36-12, 72-15 over two games and you can't even score a try, 36 to 12 LOL. If you are not interested in rugby, that was just the score in game two New Zealand v England. Hmm, world champions indeed, if we had just gotten through to the final LOL - famous last words and all. Oh, I must have missed that, lol apparently England were down to fourteen men for seventy minutes - ah well, rolling my eyes here, maybe they were better in the second game then - you can't usually play all that good with one less player for that amount of time. Mmm, just reading that Henry (NZ coach) is saying that Mehrts may get a start next week woohoo - Argentina up next, after they got pummelled by Wales hmm.
Last thing for sport today - the United States Grand Prix qualifying session. Mmm, Indianapolis - Barrichello has pole, Michael has second, that will be an interesting burn off to the first corner (yes, they have corners at Indy for the F1 at least). And good to see that the Formula One circus will continue coming to Indy for at least another two years, and perhaps longer. Not to take away from all the Nascar and IRL fans out there, but Formula One IS the best four wheeler racing around. Perhaps rallying as a closeish second!
Onto the news - missile attack in Fallujah. Lots of civilian casualties, and you know what the reporting of this sounds like to me, Israel pummelling the Gaza Strip with the random missile attacks they have there. Ick, if Iraq is gonna become a big Gaza... hmm, that's something I hadn't heard, there is actual ground fighting going on as well, into its fourth day around Buhriz and Tahrir, near Baquba. It is sounding very much I would imagine (since I can't remember them myself) daily reports from Vietnam, where one battle melds seamlessly into others and you start losing track... what with the 9/11 report coming out, and Saudi Arabia descending into well not chaos but mini anarchy - shoot out in central Riyadh may have taken out that cell that executed that American yesterday.
Oh, here's the animal story of the day - there is a lost whale on the British Columbia (Canada) coast - the scientists are trying to get it out to open water, but the First Nation tribe is saying it is the spirit of a former chief. Hmm, interesting LOL. Not saying nuffin else about it, but yeah, like I said, animal story of the day. Oh, lol there is a Rescue Luna link on the Vancouver Aquarium site - mmm, cute animal photos all over this site, I love nature photos - no, must get back to the depressing news LOL. May fave the site though, for further investigation later.
Eww, the Patriot Act. Not only can they figure out your reading habits and stuff, but also check on your laundry lists and pizza orders. Yay for Alaska, Hawaii, Maine and Vermont, having legislation against it. LOL in the story it compares Berkeley with Nebraska hmm, surprise surprise there are differences in attitude towards civil liberties between them - oh, I guess that's not fair, just as much difference in attitude towards threat of terrorism to be more fair about things.
Just five minutes after me reading about that Canadian whale story, it was on the local radio news here - well the international section of the local radio news. Weird and spooky LOL - they must be reading the same websites as me...
Hmm, Gilles Duceppe (Bloc leader) says that Harper of the Conservatives doesn't understand Quebec, its people or its culture - does Duceppe understand anything of English Canada, apart from how to manipulate it? Pot calling the kettle black methinks, and how many freaking confidence issues can a minority party have LOL - mmm the gun registry, how did a small $2 million cost balloon to $1 billion. Just another of the accounting wonders of Canada the last few years LOL. Eh, its not hockey season anymore, what does Canada do in summer and fall LOL, politics is as interesting as anything else I guess LOL.
Ah, here's a follow up to that story I mentioned yesterday - about the whole Martin camp saying the Chretien camp is sabotaging the campaign. All kiss and make up today, awww isn't that nice LOL. Okies, that is enough of Canadian politics for me for today methinks.
Just when I think that Important People operate in too much of a bubble anyways (G7, EU conferences, major sports events, half of Washington DC all have HUGE security operations), the UK Parliament is considering making most of Westminster another security zone. LOL, maybe they should do that more with the Big Brother house - I think I told you they had a real riot there the other day? Mmm, just remembering I saw Davina McCall on Parkinson last night, she's quite scrummy - as is Sarah McLaughlin, who was also on Parky - and got the Canadian chill down my back when watching her sing - the nice kind of chill I mean, thinking of how nice the country is blah blah.
Anyways, back to the story about Big Brother, saying that reality TV has run its course - I still like Survivor and the singing shows, but BB 24/7 coverage maybe not. Back to more interesting and worthy things - all the European leaders patting each other on the back about the Euro constitution - fuck I hate that coverage, they should wait until the public starts supporting them before they get out the banner headlines. How many of the referendums that are going to be run on it (citizen participation) are going to pass? And more importantly, how many people will vote, with more people unemployed in Poland than actually voted in the MEP elections just gone... rant rant rant LOL.
LOL, quiet week in the Observer, it must be time to fill in space with another Elgin Marbles story LOL. For those of you who don't know, the Brits took the best marble carvings from the Parthenon in Athens a couple hundred years ago, and they are in the British Museum in London, and the Greeks have asked like forever for them back, but the Brits won't. Think it's in the Museum constitution or something that the Marbles won't ever go back - kind of like the monkey's in Gibraltar LOL (if the monkeys leave Gibraltar, so must the British is the legend). I guess it is long since past that the Ottomans or Turks would bomb the Parthenon, but lol not taking a position on this one. Strictly between the Brits and Greeks.
This is an interesting story - saying how Kurds are migrating back south of the 'Green Line' into Arab Iraq, well, the land was Kurdish before Saddam had a hissy fit against them. Is there a noticeable difference apart from language between Kurds and Arabs in Iraq? Hmm, that's a thought to maybe keep hold of.
Olympic torch is in New York - awww that's a nice thought, the Olympics - just hope it has more of Sydney about it than Munich.
Hmm, just a quick aside, made an optometrist appointment for Tuesday after work, will hopefully sort out my eyesight then. Just to get that monkey off my back, lol and then can work on the gorilla of my debt bleah.
And finally, off on my little space exploration for the day - god I love space exploration LOL. No updates on the Cassini homepage today, let's see if there are any new pics or what is happening over on JPL - hmm, maps of Africa, comet make up, Cassini and the Mars rovers, nothing new today.
More tomorrow

Again, the pic is too big for this page - will have to save a few pics and play with their properties...
Saturday WebReport
Brought to you live by Paul dot com lol, I wish - the whole news reporting thing - no, unfortunately I am probably destined to be a hack knock off kind of reporter, no Guardian internship for ME LOL. Or even the New York Times, lol what minority could I masquerade as while cutting and pasting at fancy restaurants in downtown Manhattan. A la Jayson Blair LOL - or am I getting the name mixed up with that Law and Order episode hmm.
Anyways, first report is from the Guardian (surprise surprise) just thought I would give a mention to The Fiver, a humorous report on all things related to English and European football. Was Sven told the tactics by his players, when will Leeds stop selling - to those of you football inclined, and taking into consideration the Guardian is a Brit paper, those phrases will mean something LOL.
Hmm, another Westerner beheaded in the whole terrorism thing. My sympathy goes to the family. Let's go round up a few hundred more 'terrorists', detain them without charge and rip up their human rights - sure they may be dangerous, but why not at least charge them. Is this what the Civil War in the States was like, with Lincoln getting rid of habeaus corpus (I always get confused with what that means)? Think it's something to do with getting rid of the process of charging people when they are arrested? Someone more intelligent than me please explain LOL.
Ray Charles got a note from Bill Clinton at his funeral. I guess Dubya doesn't listen to blues - and Dirty Harry gave a eulogy as well, LOL would love to have a eulogy from Dirty Harry at my funeral. Hmm, lol with all this reality TV will celebraties ever have to downgrade their status with 'real' people becoming famous to ever get to reading at my funeral LOL - Dirty Harry or Kirsten Dunst (as an example, first off the top of my head) hmm decisions decisions LOL - video link to the States - OK, the coffee's started to work, I'm off on a tangent...
Euro 2004 soccer, Sweden drew with Italy and Denmark beat Bulgaria - let's have a look at my fantasy football squad - hmm, guess I will be getting rid of my Italian players before the knockout round LOL. Hmm, almost 80K out of 143K - not that bad, but I won't be getting a JVC TV or video camera I don't think.
Talking of reality TV, they had a real riot in the UK Big Brother house. Too much alcohol, too much clashing personalities, and the real clincher was that two girls the rest thought were evicted were just in a mini BB house and given 24 hour viewing of the house they had left as they were torn up and everything (verbally). Fast forward to their return and the aforementioned alcohol and personalities, and furniture broken and people threatening to kill each other and then the producers turned off the live web feed and sent security guards and paramedics in. Turned on the feed a couple of hours later, but they are only three weeks into the season - is it like down here and will last three months? Jeepers.
Aussie Big Brother has nothing as interesting - lol the tension points in the Aussie house are is that girl as dumb as she appears to be, how is it that that dickhead boy hasn't been nominated yet, and lol all the petty arguments - no real fights yet, apart from the non citizen and the very parochial guy arguing over what it means to be Australian. And that was weeks ago. And there was a mini drama as I described last week of the evictee protesting about refugee rights instead of talking on the show - he did a day later though, so all went back to normal - dickhead LOL.
Hmm, the 9/11 report. Take all the political spin most people are trying to make on it nowadays and it is really really sad what went on that day. Remembering back to that morning of September 12 (as it was in New Zealand) makes me very very sad and remembering the shock and everything. Probably my generation's Kennedy assassination moment - you know where you were. This is a VERY good editorial - what link between Saddam and September 11 is the basic thrust of the story.
Just over a week until the Canadian election, and hmm, the Tories look on track for a minority government, from the coverage I am reading. Whatever, it will be the most interesting election in the North for ten years at least, the whole political nation seems to be in flux. Kim Campbell anyone? Nah, I don't think the Libs will be wiped out, but they are infighting again, saw a story from a Martin adviser saying that Chretien supporters are deliberately sabotaging the poll. Mmm, or a better story, the Layton trip to Vancouver Island, may not be important in national politics, but damn it's pretty LOL.
Okies, that's gonna be it for the day - have things to check people to see LOL optometrists and all that.

The Weekend Means Something Again
Hi all - my first Saturday morning after work in hmm fifteen months, geez it was a long time between drinks (think that is a cricket term, if any of you are scratching your head). Yesterday at work was mind numbing, and it was like a Friday afternoon at school, more eager to get out than sign the timesheet - eep. Well, if I don't get paid for a week shrugs shoulders, I don't get paid I guess.
Got complimented on my dress sense by Jo - was wearing a mustard yellow shirt with a yellow and grey diamond pattern tie. Jo's comment was agreed to by Ann, and was also told that the colour suited me (lol one small step away from puke yellow mind you LOL). Stayed inside for morning and afternoon tea, and only went out at lunchtime, had a Subway with the last of this week's money and then wandered back and sat down and talked to Rachel, Lisa and Sharon - hmm, I just know I am going to get sick of the 'in New Zealand' stories the latter one has - I know that I talk about England, Canada and New Zealand occassionally, but I try to keep it to a minimum, and always feel self conscious when I find myself doing so.
The work training itself was hmm, I am just wondering whether it will last the weekend and will have to be completely retaught how to do things on Monday again. Repetition repetition will work I am sure. LOL always know you have a job when you have to learn internal arcane languages to seperate you from Joe Average, and to make it seem like only the elite (data entry people elite that is) can do the job - S-M, E-M, T-R as three instances indeed LOL. And to keep it interesting a S-M is a complaint - hmm very 1984 Big Brotherish doublespeak - I mentioned it, but no one else seemed to notice - lol, and at this job they can figure out what everyone is doing on their screens, hmm no anti corporate rants on THAT workstation LOL.
My fellow intake, I know I have mentioned my impressions of them before today, but lets have a weekly wrapup, in three words or less LOL - Mel - nice, pretty, punky; Lexie - mature, dry, not really connecting yet; Kim - shy, smiley (she seemed to smile at me a lot yesterday - not sure what's going on there), intelligent; Lisa - nice, pretty, tall, boyfriend LOL well I was MEANING to keep it three words or less; Jo - friendly, Jersey Girl (LOL must use that line on her aka that J Lo movie, when I get more comfortable around her), likes me, or at least my clothes LOL...
pause for breath - Rachel - nice, pretty, funny, boyfriend, best connection thus far; Sharon - loudest (of the group), nice, friendly but cringeworthy (with her wistfulness for NZ); Wayne - seems nice enough thus far, no battle for alpha male going on LOL LOL LOL; Ann, very nice, friendly, quiet...
So yeah, that was a week of work - or four days more specifically, with the Monday off for Queen's Birthday. Will go off websurfing now and give a seperate report of that LOL.

How IS This Guy President?
Shaking my head here, reading a report from Congress that said that Iraq didn't support or help in the attacks of 11 September. Guess what the President is saying, that Congress is basically wrong LOL, and saying that of course there was a 'relationship' between Iraq and al-Qaeda, and the funny thing is that in polling in the States a majority of the population believe the Prez instead of the truth. Great example of repetition creating new truths. In his heart the President believes that, but maybe the evidence is showing that it may not be that way, to paraphrase Reagan on the Iran Contra thing.
Great, another shadow prisoner in Iraq, some suspected terrorist who hasn't been entered into any database or given a prisoner number at all - why doesn't the Administration understand that the rule of law is one of the stronger points of civilisation, and just to lock people up you don't like is just encouraging the nutters to match force with force. Hmm, another report today says that the Prez kept reading to the schoolkids in Florida for five to seven minutes after being told the second plane hit, but to be fair, I don't know how I would have reacted either. Flying all over the country instead of going back to DC is where I wonder what was going on, not beforehand.
Hmm, off to work, playing the blind man I guess.

What - I'm Not Sacked Yet?
Had a reasonable day - but just had it topped off with a phone call saying that I had failed my eye test FUCK. Not surprising, but like I can fucking afford new glasses and new contact lenses plus the fucking optometrist fees at the moment. God I am pissed right now - I fucking try to do things right and no one in this fucking country (apart from a few friends) seems to care or is making it any easier.
Anyways, to the day - less stressful on the actual learning front. LOL social appointments were Sharon, Ann and Mel (sans mohawk) for before work, Rachel for morning tea and lunch, and Sharon and Ann for afternoon tea, and chatting to Rachel and Jo on the walk to the train station.
Notes for today - Rachel's partner is called Christian, and he is in real estate and off for the weekend (first Saturday he has had off in two years) with some mates to Cairns - Sharon's partner is called Damien and she is still comparing Oz to NZ far too much, even including the fast food as not good enough LOL - Jo has been here twelve months, is still getting to grips with Brisbane as in directions and suburbs etc and prefers Kiwis to Aussies... didn't really talk to the others today.
I'm still steamed about that prescription thing - will wander into a website to see if Medicare would cover any optometrist stuff even if I were an 'official' Australian resident. How many times will I have to relate my Medicare are being bastards story?
Hmm, teleportation may be possible, if this story is anything to go by. Will read more later am glazing over here.
Okies, got too many windows open, got about twenty joke emails clogging up my yahoo account, they are fine usually, but I'm just not in a lots of joke mood.

Need Coffeeeeeeee
Oh, just a thing I forgot to mention last night, I got my first 'Hey Pauly' thing going from fellow temp yesterday, the wonderful and possibly spikey haired today Mel. Also mentioned my brain needed a break and a rest last night and she said no, it's State of Origin night. Go the Maroons LOL.
Wow, surprise surprise, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 - there's something a lot of people won't be shocked at. Another ramp of evidence that led to America's latest war kicked out from under Bush and Cheney - will they notice, will they care? Probably not.
Latest soccer results if anyone is interested lol and hasn't heard them themselves yet. Silly silly girl, formerly known as Marion Jones, looks set to get herself into more hot water - true, she hasn't been convicted yet, but there are better ways of proving your innocence than attacking everyone else LOL. Good to see the term 'kangaroo court' has gone international LOL.
Quick pop in to the Cassini Huygens mission home page, to sooth my nerves LOL - mmm Phoebe hehehe. Bleah, back to Earth, more carnage in Iraq, Tories look strong coming out of the English debate in the Canuck election, mmm US politics, must go back to read up more over the weekend - okies peeps show is over for the morning, I is outta here!

Second Impressions
Social aspects of the day - started off before work sitting with Ann and Sharon, with Lexi wandering over for a bit as well. Morning tea was spent with Mel, Lisa and Lexi. Second morning tea (the system was rebelling LOL) was spent with Rachel and Sharon. Lunch was with Ann, Sharon and Rachel. Arvo tea was with everyone apart from Kimberley, and on the way to the train station had quick words with Mel and Jo.
Training wise, oh my brain is working overtime at the moment. Was actually learning the systems today, and was learning them very very fast, what with an hour out because the main system was down on Taryn (the trainer)'s computer. Again with humour and again not as intense as high school learning LOL, but yeah, reading the actual instructions was more confusing than just doing the tasks, seems to be explaining by overcomplicating. But for most of it I am keeping up, it is just that I haven't been in a classroom environment for soooooooo long.
Second impressions of my fellow intake, hmm - Ann, pretty quiet day by the old Annster today LOL; Wayne I think was in cruise control because he knew the computer systems inside out already; Sharon, hmm, will be the loud one, asking lots of questions and started every second sentence with 'in New Zealand' lol; Jo, hmm another quiet one, apart from a good morning first thing (she was the first one to see me in the training room) and a take care mate as she went to find her own train; Rachel, cute, funny again, a partner has emerged, she doesn't eat red meat and is anaemic; Lisa, hmm nice, but is the one asking most what was that kind of questions; Kim, still haven't figured her out really, apart from that she might be the shy nervous one - she doesn't seem to hang around with the rest of the group at break times - which may of course be a good thing; Lexi, still acting the mature older woman; and Mel, lives with mates in Newmarket and usually has a mohawk and pink hair - she says she will maybe muss it up that way tomorrow, she thinks her hair is too flat at the moment LOL.
So yeah, just a quick one tonight, good to see a draw between Germany and Holland in Euro 2004, even though I had predicted a German win, because I kinda like both those sides. Wow, Detroit won the NBA title, that was unexpected it was supposed to be a Lakers rollover?
That's about it for the night, will do a quick check of my regular news sites, and then have tea and then disconnect LOL.

Little Bit Top Gun, Little Bit Lord Of The Flies
Part the First
The future begins today LOL, but no, I'm not nervous about work, apart from the whole wow, five years since I did the newbie figuring out the pecking order thing. No, what I'm nervous about is the best friend INSISTING on contacting the ex... something I am against vehemently.
I'm here, the ex is there, there is bugger all likelihood that we will ever see each other again, but I like to stay on good terms with everyone, and ex & I email each other a couple times a week - what the hell is the point of the best friend rubbing her nose in it? True, they have never had too many nice words to say about each other, but the term let sleeping dogs lie comes to mind.
Was actually rehearsing my Goodbyes in the train coming in - yes, it could be that bad...
Part the Second
Okies, that was the before work thoughts, these are the after WORK ones - lol that word is good to write. Two guys, eight women in our training group (that we are going to constantly be around each other for about two or three months) - three Kiwis and a Brit, a Melburnian and a Canberraite as well LOL - if that last one is an actual word. Training was good - had the health and safety and induction thing by Dannic, was a bit dry, and he looked a bit nervous, had his head in the paperwork for most of it - although, to be fair, it was his first training session he had talked to. Hmm, bit of a success story for temping? He was a temp two years ago, got permanentised about six months later, a year after being made perm he was a team leader - lol Lexi, a fellow training member, was up from Melbourne and had waited five and a half years to be made permanent from temp.
Had a good trainer, Taryn I think the name was, was fast fast fast but leavened it (if that's the phrase) by a lot of humour. Spent morning tea with Rachel and Lexi, lunch with Sharon, Ann, Rachel and Lisa, and arvo tea with basically everyone.
Everyone being Mel (was late driving in traffic from the Gold Coast, left school in 2000), Lexi (married thirty years, three daughters down in Melb, came up to Queensland for the hubby's health, staying with friends at the Gold Coast), Kim - who I didn't really talk to at all today, Lisa (up from Canberra, worked for Telstra, has a boyfriend, lives out on the coast further along my railway line), Rachel (who is shaping up to be the funny one LOL, born and bred Queenslander), Jo (the English one, apart from that not much info LOL), Sharon (out at Bray Park, has a partner and kid, 5.5 years old, could be the stroppy strict one LOL), Wayne (Brisbanite, has worked for Telstra heaps before, could be the smart one LOL), and Ann - from Mangere in Auckland, has been in the country a year, has kids?
LOL Sharon seems quite homesick or something, very comparing which is not always a good thing. Ann seems nice and fairly level headed. I'm jealous of Wayne cos he knows more of the job/employer than me. Rachel is funny and cute. Lisa is cute. Mel and Kim are the young ones. Lexi is the mature one. And I haven't figured out Jo yet LOL. First impressions and all that.
So yeah, was learning all day about the company's products. A couple of easy activities. I think I came across as assertive but relaxed (asking questions volunteering to read stuff)? Went for a wander around one of the real floors lol and one of the girls there said 'we were you eight weeks ago'. Lots of potential in the position if I am staying in Brisbane though.
Just looking quickly at the news and sport, since I am going to have to readjust my whole online timing and stuff. Mmm, Sweden won their Euro 2004 game against the Bulgarians - and I have two of the scorers (Ljungberg and Larsson) in my fantasy team yayyyy! Italy and Denmark drew but...
Eh, I'm too sleepy to take notice of any other news story I think LOL.

Couple of Interesting Links
The Guardian has updated for the day, and this is interesting. Since Saddam is one of the few POWs the US military has taken the last couple years in this 'war on terror' he is entitled to be released at the end of the occupation, unless he is properly charged. The Red Cross and the Vatican, maybe there are TWO bodies that the US has to listen to, or at least not blatantly ignore. Thinking realpolitik though, I have no doubt which side of the argument will be listened to by the Prez.
And this is good as well - telling the story of endless wars and endless occupations in the Middle East, mainly based around the whole thing of Babylon rising and falling endlessly. Good article, and shows what the citizens of Mesopotamia thought themselves of wars written from other points of view in the Bible and other (sort of) historic documents. Mmm, the British Museum, was there for hmm a few hours one day, but it's just so overwhelming in it's size and scale - like when I went to the Louvre and basically only saw the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. Need more than 'if it's Tuesday it must be Paris' travel nowadays. The MidEast trip was well paced - well, apart from Lebanon LOL.

Monday Morning Websurfing Report LOL
France Two England One, but the French left it late, and unfortunately for my fantasy team, Henry didn't score LOL. The other result a draw between Switzerland and Croatia I predicted as well, just not quite right in the scoring (had France 3 2 over the Poms, and a 1 all draw instead of scoreless). Ooh, I would have hated to be in a London pub those last five minutes of the game - think it would have been worse than losing on a penalty shootout (which they did to the Argies in 1998). Emile Heskey gave away the first free kick goal - lol just gotta laugh at anything about the guy, he was torn to shreds in Guardian jokes during the last World Cup.
Am 8000th out of about 71,ooo in the predictions game - the fantasy team game is still updating, bleah. Not too shabby being in the almost top 10% LOL. But shouldn't have given my double points game to Portugal Greece, was considering that or Czech Latvia game and wanted the points to be sorted out earlier, that's basically the only reason I went with Portugal as the joker, can I take it to the European Court of Arbitration please LOL LOL, I really want a JVC 42 inch TV or camcorder!
A meteorite falls to the ground in Auckland. Crashes through a roof into the living room LOL. Was apparently going at 500 kays an hour when it dropped down, that would have given ya a headache LOL. The odds of a house being hit are about the same as winning the lottery, but hmm space rock would be worth a bit on the ebay market I am sure! Another suicide bomber in Iraq, twelve dead there, another interim government official assassinated, not good news... Secretary of State Powell said it was difficult to protect an entire government - will get worse before it gets better I think. Less Americans dying but just as much chaos.
I heard on the radio this morning that in Poland there was between fifteen and twenty percent voter turnout in the European elections. That is appalling for a new member to be that disinterested in what is going on in Brussels, but then again somewhat understandable, with twenty percent unemployment, and I think I heard a couple weeks ago that the President resigned and the Prime Minister was in danger of being impeached? Let's get some facts here LOL.
More sport and surprise surprise Michael won another Grand Prix, this time in la belle province, Montreal leg of the tour and all. Good to see Coulthard actually getting in the points, even if it is behind his team mate. As feared, but not quite expected by me, New Zealand lost the third cricket test against England and thus a whitewash of the series. Let's talk about the rugby again shall we LOL.
Bleah, a vote for separatists is not a vote for separatism, according to Bloc Quebec leader Duceppe. How disingeneous is that? If the BQ sweeps Quebec, first thing on a lot of minds will be when the next referendum will be. Eh, most politicians get under my skin lol, so I shouldn't really be beating up on the Bloc alone. But they are the only ones on the market at the moment that think of their own province/state so virulently that they ignore the rest of the country.
Let's see what the coverage today is like on CBC and CTV - yeah, I'm not Canadian I know, but I am very interested in all aspects of the country... have been ever since wandering into the Canadian pavilion at World Expo 88 in Brisbane in surprise surprise 1988. That's the first impression Canada made on me, and yes, it was a good one. LOL my mother thinks that it is just a bigger version of New Zealand with First Nations instead of Maori, and there is a hint of truth about that, but there's just something about north of 49 that intrigues me, and that goes beyond the fact that I've had two serious relationships with Canucks LOL.
Reading the Guardian footy reports for today now. Always get quite a giggle out of them. Just started on the France England report, it will all end in tears I am sure.
Okies, time to split for a bit again, have slowed down in the Guardian and New York Times, but there aren't any stories reaching out and grabbing me LOL - maybe need more coffee?

Sunday Report
Hi all - before trawling the internet for good stories today, just thought I would give a possibly no-link breakdown of yesterday. Morning was the usual of being online, and then me and Dad waiting around for my sister and mother to get back from a charity book fair so that we could have lunch LOL. Had lunch and then sat around the table on the deck for a couple of hours just chatting blah blah, before parents and I were basically kicked out because my sister had a couple of friends around - this house is far too small to have visitors LOL.
Had a bit of a drive around the city, asked Mum why sister was moving out (apparently so that she doesn't have to be clock watching when out, trying to catch the last train - would rather live within taxiing distance - yeah, I thought that was a weak 'official' reason as well LOL), Mum and Dad drove by a couple of for sale places, but they really weren't in the mood LOL - trust me, I would probably STILL be out with them if they were - and stopped in my brother's place. Had a nice visit for about forty five minutes or so.
Came back, and instead of real food (sister's friends were still here) we got pizza. Had been TWO MONTHS since I had last had my favourite take away LOL, so can restart the clock again. Then watched Big Brother, the local Aussie version, and OMG something actually INTERESTING happened on there.
The evictee this week came out, taped his mouth shut, and held up a sign saying Free Da Refugees (I may have mentioned that Aussie's solution to illegal immigrants/refugees is to lock them up in the middle of the desert or on Third World islands), and refused to speak to the hostess, about the usual frothy questions, who was your favourite, who do you think is going to win, that sort of thing. They cut back to a live feed from the house, kicked Merlin off the stage and then were ad libbing as they went. The producers and staff actually earned their money last night, was good to watch, and a bit of interest in the actual show... by the way, I agree that it is an issue to protest over, but you can protest more effectively by actually SPEAKING mate. Or maybe tape your mouth shut for a couple mins but then take it off and start talking about it.
Then hmm watched 2001 A Space Odyssey, they are doing a Stanley Kubrick month on one of the stations here, and hmm I think it is a brilliant movie, but then you have others like my parents who think it is overhyped - they turned off when the antenna was being worked on, what with the breathing within the oxygen tanks being what they called heavy breathing. Was flicking between that and another channel that has the Formula One, before realising that since the F1 was in Canada this week, the timezones were mucked up for coverage (even more so than usual). Set the timer for 2.15 in the morning here, and dozed in and out of watching it, damn that mute button, lol finally turned it off when Ralf pitted and Michael got in front of him...
Okies, now to the entry of my usual daily websurfing LOL.

Sunday Morning - Good No Doubt Song
Had a weird dream last night - started off with me visiting Kinshasa in Democratic Republic of Congo, I think I had also been up country a bit before that. I was headed up country again but my Kinshasa guide had to stay within the city and couldn't come with me, civil war and all, I would say I would write. And then suddenly I was watching a Man United v Arsenal game, but because I had the cheapest tickets available the seat was in a tunnel leading onto the pitch (not the players tunnel LOL those would cost) and could only see a small portion of the grass. But at least I could say I went to a Man U Arsenal game...
Then I had planned trips to China and South East Asia, and New York or Los Angeles, before getting home. I had the land component of these trips booked, but realised I hadn't booked my air travel - and I was all out of money (hence the really really crappy seats at the soccer) so I was thinking here we go again with the asking parents for money thing. Then the dream broke up - weird one!
36 to 3, 36 to 3, we are so much better than you, 36 to 3! That being the score the All Blacks got over the 'world champion' English squad - yes yes, the English team had all those retirements after last year, but surely a good team would have had more fight in it than what was on display last night? Was a right old walloping, a lot of energy that was expected to come out in the World Cup final last year on the AB side coming out this year. Too bad it's another three years until the next championship. Ah well, let's work towards an unbeaten run, a la 1987 to 1990... lol was nice eating usual Saturday dinner (steak eggs chips and onions) on my bed, since the parents didn't want the lounge taken over for rugby LOL, never has steak and chips tasted so lovely hehehe.
Eh, I'm off to a bad start with my Euro 2004 predictions - so much for Russia and Portugal winning today LOL. The most I can hope with my fantasy team is that none of the Russians or Portugese played today LOL. New Zealand are doing well in the cricket, but being two nil down LOL let's just watch the collapse - another nice atmosphere article here. Mets were swept in Minnesota, lets see if we have any better luck in Kansas City. Ah no, not good, lost two games already. That regular sinking feeling from the .500 level. Reading deeper into the Twins last loss, reminds me of the Cubs losing momentum in the playoffs last year, after the fan caught the ball that could have been caught by a player.
Hmm, as well as the chaos in Iraq and Afghanistan, maybe Saudi should also be considered part of the war on terror, what with all the shootings and stuff the last few weeks. Another Westerner killed today, this time an American. Back to more sedate settings, this minute in the Canadian election. Hmm, that will maybe piss off Western Canada, no time zone blackouts on election day, so they will be able to figure out how much their vote is worth three hours before close of polls. But then again, if western Canada did really want to know, they could come online instead of watch TV I guess LOL. Oh to be a Conservative in Quebec - lol that must be a really fun job for masochists. LOL and there's where the Tories can stuff all their liberal candidates and still say they are being inclusive - the Tory candidate in Duceppe's (leader of the Bloc) riding is openly gay. Wouldn't see that in Alberta LOL LOL. Oh, I may have that wrong, Vancouver Centre's Tory candidate is also openly gay LOL.
The Guardian for today (or more correctly, the Observer) doesn't seem to be up just yet - only new story from when I last checked is the football results. Recommended reading (for me at least) are all the minute by minute reports of the games - the writers have a good sense of humour always.
More Iraq news from the New York Times. Apparently the intel that the US tried to do the decapitation strikes on the Iraqi leadership was faulty at best. And that there is the possibility that the Iraqis were deliberately disinforming military intelligence about whereabouts and stuff. And that these particular raids were very time sensitive and thus caused a lot of civilian casualties. First time I have mentioned Iraq in a while on here I think? Same old same old, everyone knows what is going on there so don't need to be updated with every twist and turn...
Not much else on my mind at the moment - was a good article about John Kerry, Everyman in the New York Times. Remember, you have to be NYTimes registered to read it from the link (I think). Checking out Australian Big Brother, but yeah, not much else popping to mind at the moment.

One Last For The Morning
Pwetty.
I was going to add the actual JPEG to the diary, but it was too big to look any good. May take it, with NASA's permission of course, shrink it down a bit, add it to a website and then go from there, but for now, it's a weblink, and that is wonderful enough.
Mmmm, Saturn...

Mmmm, Saturn...
Strauss' Blue Danube Waltz
Thinking of that music and the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey while reading about the Cassini probe, almost about to hit Saturn orbit (or is it going to be mainly Titan based?). Hmm, now there's a DVD I have to buy - Cassini has just taken a few photos of Phoebe - no, not an Australian friend lol a Saturn moon, and, as usual when talking astronomy and the universe, I am just pretty much in awe. Imagine the distances involved, because that's all us non-NASA people can do, imagine it... a moon 220 kays across with a fifty kay crater, ouch, would have felt THAT impact LOL. And here is the official site. Mmm, space exploration (drools)...
There are European elections going on, if anyone is interested - a couple of ex porn stars on the ballot LOL - did everyone's ears and search engines prick up at that? Hehehe - and Tony Blair's party did really badly at council elections (as important for the Brits as state elections are to the US I'm thinking). But, as that BBC article makes clear, more interesting things, like football championships start in Europe this weekend - mmm, countdown is at about sixteen hours woohoo!
Oh dear, this story has made international (well BBC at least) webpages. Pub game of biting live mice and eating them, in Brisbane no less - well, no mice actually got eaten, but a few tails and limbs went apparently. Reagan's funeral in Washington - will catch the 'highlights' on TV later in the day. It may have been live on free to air TV here, but that was at two in the morning eek, he wasn't THAT great a President to stay awake at that time of the morning - not like it was a rugby match or anything LOL. Mmm, England v the All Blacks today, and on free to air TV in Australia, woohoo!
Something worse than the mouse eating, if any one actually wants to dare reading it. Pretty bad, and that's typical Kiwi understatement. But this is a better one, Winnie the Pooh versus basketball - just thinking, the LA Lakers, Shaq and Kobe, not playing at the Staples Center because of some piddling thing, lol such as a political convention hmm, not likely! Wouldn't be likely that rugby would have such a problem in New Zealand either...
Here is a story saying exactly what I was saying last weekend, about all the attention on the Western Front in World War Two. Very well written, point very well made. Seventy percent of Wehrmacht (German Army) deaths were on the Eastern Front. From what I have read, both about the German and Soviet advances, Stalingrad and Berlin to take two examples, it was HELL on that front.
Just a quick personal note - lol one of the agencies that was vying for my hand but lost (well at this stage), the agent wrote me an email saying congrats on your new job, what is it and everything. The agent was very pretty when I went in a couple weeks ago, and actually was looking for other positions for me when possie one fell thru. So I was going to send an email back saying thanks and everything anyways, over this weekend sometime, but getting that email spurred me to write it earlier. Not that she probably read it before going home on a long weekend Friday (sent the reply about quarter to five), but yeah, thank you Kim LOL. Entirely professionally of course LOL LOL.
Okies, that's me for about the morning - will catch up again soon

City Visit
Part the First
Hmm, just been in Queen Street Mall, listening to a school band LOL, not like I have anything else to do - what movie was You're Just Too Good To Be True out of - think it's one of those landmark ones like - I've Got It By Golly - The Deer Hunter, the boys singing in the bar, god I love that scene...
So yeah, been for orientation, had a few tests, but no pass/fail ones - if I did extraordinarily bad on any of them, it SOUNDS like a retake please option. Hanging around town for another hour and a half for this hearing/sight thing - again, it sounds as though it will be do you need bigger text on the screen rather than bend over and cough thoroughness (ewww Paul LOL). Fingers crossed.
Anyways, my fellow tempees LOL, I'm the only guy (schweet) and most of the girls are a) slim and b) about the right age to consider dating (20s LOL), let's NOT get obsessed with one of them and get dead drunk at the Xmas party - a la IRD or Nestle LOL. Ack, with these pills I shouldn't really be having ANY alcohol. Ah well, wait and see how things go I guess.
Anyways, apart from the gender imbalance - there WILL be another guy and another girl starting on Tuesday, but I was the only guy there today - apart from the gender imbalance it felt very much like a Big Brother first episode. LOL everyone's quiet and nice the first meeting, but what personalities will come out?
Let's go around the table, Lisa, who's moved to Brissie from Canberra, has a boyfriend, worked for Kellys and Telstra in the past; Kimberley, fresh into the workforce from university; Jo, who is waiting around for her registration (nurse?) and is English; Rachel, who looks Indian and used to work in a bank; Sharon, fellow Kiwi, has a long term partner and kids; and Mel, who seems nice enough and has a piercing through her not quite chin, but you know, halfway between the mouth and chin? Lisa has a piercing at the corner of her laugh/smile lines. Anne and Wayne we get to meet on Tuesday.
LOL we will be working very closely with each other over the next three months apparently. LOL had an intranet info task on your headset, the tone of it (ie how important your headset is) reminded me of the gun indoctrination in Full Metal Jacket - LOL, well not quite grabbing the crotch! Yes, why I mentioned BB or perhaps a better analogy Survivor is thinking who will go to lunch with whom if anyone.
Ah well, at least people I know in Brisbane, apart from family, shrink, doctor and a couple distantish (in attitude) online contacts - and yes, LOL so far they is all women. This section of Telstra will be ramping up to fifty temps, and is due to them dropping the threshold of what a small business is, from $50K to $10K. LOL will I be Rupert, Boston Rob, Big Gay Al, Ruben or Clay LOL.
Bumped into Pam (Alex's girlfriend) in the Myer Centre, as I was headed to KFC (yes, true, on take out no doubt we will have chicken night duh me), just filled her in a bit. I was thinking of going to a movie, but nothing good was on at the appropriate time slot, so to fill in time I checked the walk from the train station to work (haven't used that term in a while) and it's about a five to ten minute walk - make it fifteen to be on the safe side.
Nice block, half of building, half is a park (have got ibises wandering around me at the moment). LOL and with this committed training (which i have NEVER had going into a job EVER) two weeks, throw another pop influence in there - Top Gun - GOOOOOSE! LOL, god your mind goes on tangents Paul... You've Lost That Loving Feeling indeed. Dress code is smart casual, but you can never go wrong with shirt and tie, and LOL gotta love the suit - maybe not the first wee while though...
Part the Second
I failed the sight test. Damocles sword over my head, and a huge sense of shame - it apparently won't endanger my job, but it's still not a good feeling, and that word, best practise, LOL not what always happens. The feeling 'why did you go for that job Paul, you knew you were going to fail' - eh, I panicked and just started reading as soon as possible, instead of take a deep breath and think and look for the smallest script I could read.
Add to that the fact that I also put my glasses on, and a huge sense of ugliness has also descended. Especially since this china doll perfect face girl is sitting opposite (on the train) - well, not opposite, but no one is sitting between her and my line of sight - I'm mentally begging someone to break the line of sight because I feel so much an ugly failure.
LOL time to see the shrink again Paul - bleah, I feel like the troll under the bridge.

Bend Over Let Me See You Shake Your Tailfeather
Sad news for the morning, Ray Charles has died, aged 73. LOL humming in my head, I always get Georgia On My Mind mixed up with You Were Always On My Mind (by Elvis that latter one was wasn't it?). Hmm, the official site doesn't have news of it yet, just a post in March saying how a movie will be made of his life.
Well, I have an earlyish start today, have to be into the agency to register (bank account number, tax file number all that sort of thing - plus that bedamned eye and hearing test LOL) at 9.30 - which, for me, is early LOL. After that, if I pass my sight test, there will be two weeks training (which I will be guessing will be fairly 9 to 5ish) and then shift work from anytime from 7 ayem to 7 pee em LOL, Monday to Friday. Oy, those 0700 starts will be horrid. Now, with the spare cash I have today, will it be a movie, or a take out lunch I have LOL. Well, it is take out meal night at home, so hmm, will think about it.
Hmm, the election campaign in Canada is going negative, and the Libs are in disarray by the looks. Whether it is we are halfway through the election and we will have time to buck up our ideas good, or Kim Campbell bad (surely not?), well, another two and a half weeks to go. Is rather exciting, as elections go LOL.
Hmm, no coalition deaths in Iraq today, but plenty of Iraqi v Iraqi fighting, police station overrun in Najaf, mortar attacks in Fallujah, more attacks on coalition convoys... is a mess, whether or not the US and willing forces stay or not.
This one is scary - man is found dead in his apartment after twenty years (well the paper on his table was from February 1984), he was bankrupt and moved into a vacant building his construction company had built. The sad thing is, none of his relatives put in a missing person's report. Mmm, rugbyyyyyyy - if New Zealand had been in the final, we would have beaten England I'm sure LOL. And no, we won't be talking about the semi final... LOL
Aww, panda numbers are increasing. Positive non political non war non sport story of the day that one. And we all know there aren't too many of those around. Good article about reality television, and especially the role women are supposed to play in the shows, is here. Guys are never judged as harshly as girls on reality TV. Never. Big statement I know, but yeah, its what I have seen - even the Jerry Springer show, bad girls are treated worse than bad guys. Oh, and very much so, the general thing of women needing to be perfect, goes to the makeover shows - saw an ad for an Aussie version of Extreme Makeover last night saying she has never been called beautiful, but now has the chance. What a load of SHIT LOL.
Okies, its time for me to get ready for this induction day thingy - speak again soon - maybe this afternoon if you're really lucky LOL.

Male Hairdressing
Is it an unwritten rule somewhere that all suburban male hairdressers are two years either side of usual retirement age LOL? And that they are all pretty blind - lol walked into an empty salon, no other customers, sat down and was just about to read a magazine when the guy who was just at the front finally noticed me... and they all shave the back of your neck lol for some reason I get a thrill out of that, just hmm it's a fairly intimate part of your body the neck.
Thinking about this reminds me of when I started going to an actual barber in the middle of high school. Up until then, it was a cut from my mother, but then it seemed as if it was part of growing up to get paid haircuts. LOL, remember the thing at school being (because it was a small town with only two or three major barbers, and one being head and shoulders the more popular) over which of the barbers had given you a haircut, was one old guy and two girls in their early 20s - lol and the whole thing of did you get Jodie (for us teens she was as close to a wet dream as everyday life got), Melissa or The Boss.
And then the whole thing of living by myself, or with flatmates, with the parents on the other side of the Tasman and no girlfriends at that stage. Working with a suit on all day and everything, and then at five o'clock or soon after wandering to the next block and getting a haircut and as funky a hairdressers as guys ever get. Was a Playstation, TVs above every seat, and cable TV. So was either sports or movies usually.
Mmm, haircuts of the past LOL. More soon, but have to go off and chat a bit LOL, where did I get my haircut in Britain or Canada, hmm have to remember... reminiscing, 'Three Lions of the Shirt' World Cup 98 and everything hehehe - more later

Another Quiet Day
Hmm, not up to much in reality today. Well, I am planning on going out for a haircut, which is far more than I usually do in the outside world for a normal day, but eh, that is all about to change fingers crossed as I get into a work routine - aargh, less time for the internet, lol and my trawl across random sites (which I am sure any reader will be hoping for a break from LOL).
Hmm, Reagan's trip to the Capitol was on TV here just now. Hmm, when things like ex Presidents dying happens, all the Dem and Rep delineations are scrapped and it all goes to America first. Scary thing for the rest of the world really. Is Reagan dying as traumatic for Americans as 9/11? It wasn't as if it was unexpected.
Two words - Iran Contra. That's all I will say. LOL will the right be as fair to Clinton when he goes as the left seems to have been (well, going into the bomb shelters, cancelling the campaign) for Reagan? Or will Monica, cigars and impeachment always be part of the background with Slick Willy.
Hmm, on another aside, I bet Hillary is fuming that she didn't put her hat in the ring for 2004 now that Dubya is so neck and neck with Kerry now. Eh, maybe, but she is as polarising to the right as Dubya is to the left. There would be no middle ground to fight over in a Hillary Dubya campaign.
The Tories are in front in the Canadian elections! Oh Mi God! LOL and rather than defending their own policy, the Libs are going attack dog on Tory ass LOL. Not a good way to figure out what the next three or four years are going to be like in Canuckland, by being negative negative.
OK, off to have first shower of the day - second will be after my haircut - hmm whether to have lunch down in the village (thinking Subway) or save some money LOL.
Spot ya soon
