We were picked up by LHE and DHE to head up to Ulverstone to a nice seafood restaurant there. We dropped in on MMA and AMA out on their farm - V, LHE and MMA being workmates, AMA, DHE and myself being the 'other halves'. MMA had been ready to go since quarter past five, was quite hungry apparently, and our booking at the restaurant wasn't until half six - caught the first couple of minutes of the news, but wasn't allowed to stick around until the Washington indictment piece. LOL what I find fun in, sad huh...
We headed up the line to the restaurant - oh, apart from a bit of rain overnight Friday/Saturday, and a bit of a shower on Saturday morning, it was gorgeous weather down there. Whereas Brisbane last week was above thirty degrees constantly with high humidity, the weekend was low twenties and no humidity, was very much like summer temps back home :)
We headed to the restaurant, and had a very relaxed evening. V and I didn't have an entree, due to the hunger buster burger and salmon baguette from earlier in the day, but the others did, which meant that even vicariously this was the first three course meal I have had in like ages. V and I both had fish and chips for mains, and dessert was bread and butter pudding for me, banana pecan pie for V.
There was a bottle of wine in the mix as well, and a finishing round of coffee and hot chocolate, and was a very enjoyable evening - well, maybe apart from the boys talking farming LOL. Lingered for two and a half hours at the restaurant, so was a very civilised meal. I went up to the desk with the bill, to pay a portion of it, and then everyone tramped out the door - I was meaning to do the full payment and then get out the pocket calculators for who had the extra Sprite later in the night, instead of doing it all at the table, but the guys said they should have had a camera with the look on my face. I should have realised they would come back LOL, but just a bit of a surprise. Ha ha freaking ha, people :)
Went back to the farmhouse for a bit of winding down time, and it was play with the Maltese terrier time (surprisingly, I was the only one who had a cup of anything) - and V called the dog Paul, hmmph LOL. Was nice, even though we were all tired, and AMA was apparently getting up five hours later to go fishing. Even though the night sky was stunning on the ride back to town, I don't think I have the mental capability to live on a farm - let alone the whole no driving license issue :)
After all the eating of the day, got home and practically waddled through the door. Next morning, had a leisurely time reading the newspaper (the page three pictures in the local paper were of a young girl feeding a cow - yep, in the country now Pauly LOL), before deciding to try again with the country gardens cafe place that had had the wedding party the previous day for lunch on Sunday. Really, we had had more than enough food already, and we had a birthday party to go to in the afternoon, but V had talked the place up so much, I just had to go.
Another wonderful drive through countryside Tasmania, and got to the cafe. Didn't like the waiter that we got, just seemed a very stuck up wine lover with a self important sense of humour who just rubbed us up the wrong way - can't really explain how, but he just did - and had chicken breast, wrapped with bacon, with apricot sauce. Was nice, but not as nice as the fairly similar casino meal I had on the Friday night. V said the place used to be better than it seemed currently. The milkshake I had was lovely though.
Had a quick look around the gardens, but really, the best view was looking out from the carpark. And we had had MORE than enough food already over the course of the weekend. Came back after lunch to home base and before heading to the birthday party had to have a half hour lie down LOL.
Some of V's workmates had put together a few 'presents' on Friday at work apparently, and had delivered them to V's place on the Saturday while we were out. They included a chess board as 'indoor games to play with' - black balloons as 'All Black condoms' - a whistle to 'whistle while you work, or play' - a leaf of spinach 'to give the iron to keep Popeye up' - and other assorted gags, that I can't think of off the top of my head. Obviously some people have too much time on their hands in the office LOL.
Anyways, the one year old's birthday party - I didn't have to play with the girls on the trampoline or doing tag on the Sunday. There were more than enough other children around to keep them entertained without dragging me into it. Instead, V and I sat talking to the adults, occasionally nibbling at the food, although about fit to burst, and had the baby, well toddler I guess, sitting on our knees at various times in the afternoon. I had taken all the photos with my camera, so V had her camera, hope some of the pics are good - especially the baby wearing sunglasses LOL.
Snipped some flowers out of KDO's garden as the birthday party was winding up - oh, the boy of honour fell asleep just a couple of minutes before the Elmo cake came out, and would not be roused LOL - snipped some flowers and headed up to the cemetery to place them on V's parents' plot. Went to home base, threw the bags into the car, and headed to the airport.
Headed out just a bit earlier than we had to, just in case we felt like heading into Launceston for KFC or something, although no, really didn't need to eat any more at all. A lot more leisurely approach to the airport this time around, heading back to Bris than heading away from it two days before, although V was stressed both at me leaving and doing a reverse into the spot at the airport carpark.
Sat at the airport cafe for the last few minutes, before hugging and going through the security checks - V said she would go as soon as I left the departure lounge - there can be an awful lot of distance merely being on opposite sides of a glass wall grr - but came and stuck outside in the observation area until the plane revved up its engines.
Au revoir, van Diemen's Land...
