I don't know whether I have told my blog yet, but the work Xmas party theme is the 80s. Kind of toing and froing as to whether to to get all dressed up or not, but the best idea I have come up with, I think, is US Navy dress uniform, a la Officer and A Gentleman or Top Gun.
Anyways, I go into the nearest costume shop after work yesterday, before going to socialise with workmates - more on that later, am clock watching for the next wee while, want to catch the next bus or train into town - yeah, I know, wild isn't it, going out on a Saturday LOL - anyways, go into a costume shop, and they don't have the dress uniform, or much approximating it. Have the dark blue navy jacket, if I wanted to go as Hunt For Red October, but is much too tight anyways, or the normal sailor thing, if I want to go as a rating off Under Siege - oops, that was 90s - but no white Navy uniforms.
So I try the closest approximation I can see, and go try it on. As I was just looking, I didn't change completely, just put a jacket over my shirt and the hat. I explain to the girl at the desk that it is an 80s theme, and she says oh, Love Boat.
NOT the answer I was hoping for. So I won't be getting any sort of costume from there, at least for Navy whites LOL. Another idea that was suggested to me was CHiPs - but didn't Erik Estrada and sidekick have really really tight pants? Hmm, four more costume shops to look at in town, plus another few in the suburbs, will see what we shall see.
Of course, I could still go in civvies, normal Friday night going out clothes, but where would the fun be in that.
More later today
