Again Again LOL. Like I said before, I hadn't even started reading the papers after TWO entries this morning, and with the tone of that New York Times piece, I couldn't bring such a serious tone into my usual kind of entry - that op ed is important enough to have written out in full, which would have ruined the Tinky Winky thought LOL.
As well as a couple other news articles I found - this one lamenting the fact that Euro liberals can't vote in Florida or Texas LOL (from the Guardian, but OF COURSE LOL) good idea to eBay your votes, since forty percent of the population doesn't vote - or this one poking fun at the Ryder Cup ceremonies on the opening day - go Europe go LOL - most of the players are from preemptive supporting Britain though hmm, where is the cheese eating surrender monkey stereotypes for the Brits? Best lead of any team in a Ryder coming out of the first day...
My ears are bleeding - just heard Jessica Simpson doing a cover of Robbie Williams' Angels song. What with Hillary Duff doing Our Lips Are Sealed, and some singer doing a cover of Belinda Carlisle's Summer Rain, and yes, I know there are SOME singers out there that do original stuff, but aargh LOL - I wonder if Ms Carlisle is still as flame haired as she was in the late 80s hmm - Live Your Life Be Free indeed - god I need broadband so I can download music faster than granny steps. Maybe at the new place my parents will finally settle down instead of looking at the next big thing property or house wise - they bought a new place and will be moving in early November, with me as a passenger...
Iraq just continues to be chaos - no coalition soldiers killed today, but Fallujah bombed and another carbomb in Baghdad. Fuck Mission Accomplished, scuse my language. While no one else noticed no doubt, the Kiwi contingent, after having a year of fixing wells and local infrastructure in the British zone, have withdrawn. Of course, you may not have noticed that we were there in the first place LOL. Ivan the storm was indeed terrible for the whole Caribbean region as well as the USA, and Jeannie looks on the same path - after Charley and Frances, Florida especially sounds like it is in a deep disaster fatigue.
Jeezus, just as I have sympathy for Florida, their High Court rules that Nader CAN be on the ballot for the election. What with that and touch tone voting - geez just shaking my head here. And still on North American politics, what is with Quebec not having to have the same accountability for health spending as the other provinces? La lucky province LOL - and yes, I am being kind, sponsorship scandal anyone? Eh, reading further down, the QC provincial health spending rules are basically the same as the others - sorry to any Montreal and Quebec City readers LOL.
How on earth do these rap videos manage to get such sexy girls to dance on them? LOL Chingy Jackpot playing at the moment - umm hazard a guess, lots of money? Damn, I want to be a rap star LOL. Although I have no talent at it whatsoever, all I needed was to be born a month later and I would be the Australian Idol LOL LOL, and conquer the world via that. LOL the We Will Rock You plot starts off with Idol eek. Mmm, the costumessssss in that show....
Doing my daily check of the LA Times electoral poll page - well, almost daily, I check whether there are any new states polled in the home page and then maybe go and do the calculations of states - it's not looking good for Kerry at the moment, but lol remembering a quote from Jim Bolger, New Zealand PM of a while ago, the 1993 elections were saying he would get voted out, but patched up a coalition and his election night quip to the journalists saying how did this happen was 'bugger the pollsters'. Maybe the most famous thing he will be known for LOL?
Bleah, Robbie Williams actually doing a new song. He was good in small doses, but noooooo not a Robbie fan lately. Another pessimistic story on Iraq here, saying that whatever happens from now on, the war is basically lost - no hearts and minds are being won, and even if there are elections, the US probably won't like who gets voted for. September 11, 1973 and the Pinochet coup in Chile anyone? Hmm, though saying the US in Iraq is like the Germans in Stalingrad - even I'm not thinking that currently - surely not THAT much of a disaster?
OMG going back to the LA Times electoral thing, Colorado is sooooooooo close - Bush 45%, Kerry 44% - I thought Colorado would be solid bedrock Republican? And the other two states with polls today, Bush is leading in both MN and PA, but only by one or two percent. Maybe the Dems shouldn't lose hope yet? Being a foreigner lol any opinion I have OBVIOUSLY doesn't count - where are the WMD anyone, LOL - no, he's a Kiwi, we can ignore him - what, you guys had troops in Iraq? We just thought they were Northern Irish, what with the funny accents LOL, and being deployed with the Brits.
Nah, gotta close the state by state map off - it's only one or two percent lead in the battleground states, well most of them, but all that red is depressing LOL. Talking about Reds, what about Putin basically shutting down democracy in Russia? Dodgiest leader since hmm Brezhnev? Using Beslan as a pretext to further his control - and Russian democracy I don't think is mature enough to survive this kick and regenerate, like in the US the last four years - not that US democracy was under threat between Sept 11 and now, just meaning the appetite for dissent - make Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2001 or 2002, even last year, and Michael Moore would have been lynched by liberals, let alone the Republicans.
A piece on the potential NHL lockout, the main point being that apart from a few hockey markets that the US is basically yawning about it - front page news in Canada of course. Bring the expansion teams back north of the border - take that you yawners LOL. It's hard to figure out who has the more fair argument - the league is the lowest earning of America's big four, but hmm a salary cap it's hard to say which way it should go. Apart from PLAYING of course.
Okies, I might actually tie it up there, and if not, there will be a fifth entry for the morning LOL - you poor, poor people LOL.
Paul
