Hey all - title today alludes to the fact that I now have seven, count em, seven 300 capacity photo albums, and I am not even into this decade yet LOL. My collection starts in July 1996 (when I first went overseas by myself) and 2099 photos later I am only at Christmas 1999. And thinking what has happened the last five years, geez a lot has happened :)
Just seen the new adidas ad featuring Scooby Doo and David Beckham - Hanna Barbera, where are your values? Well, I guess after putting Freddie Prinze Jr in the movie, I guess we can safely say where that has gone lol - sorry Freddie, but Scooby isn't exactly doing much for your career I would hazard a guess :)
Hmm, who was the girl that sang the Gloria Estefan Turn the Beat Around song on American Idol, it was that blonde one wasn't it? LOL and no I am not going to search google for her name, just tells you how fleeting reality TV fame is - George Huff, won't forget that name LOL LOL. But no, it wasn't Georgie boy - anyways, the girl that sang it on Australian Idol got voted off this week. Top four, Ricki Lee, Courtney, Daniel, and Chanel as the outsider. Mmm Ricki Lee, as this photo (as he goes searches) will hopefully show. Well, it's not the Michael Jackson influenced white hat and suit, but it's still a nice pic.
When did you first notice sports? I was thinking of that this morning, with my favourite sports, and hmm rugby first came to my notice in 1990, the first or second All Black test against Scotland. With cricket, it was the 1987/88 season, Richard Hadlee trying to knock Mike Whitney's stumps over, and it just wouldn't go for about an hour grrr. Soccer, I think the first I knew of it was listening to my uncles in Rotorua discussing the English Division One (as it was then) and the FA Cup, but the first games I saw were in Italia 90 - mmm, England losing on a penalty shootout (surprising that LOL), Lineker and all that LOL.
Ice hockey, hmm, hard to say when I first noticed that, rather than the Quebecker girl at school wearing the Habs jumper in 1993, or listening on the news that night that Montreal went on a riot LOL. Or was it the Canada pavilion at Expo 88 - I know that was my first exposure to Canada, and it was a good impression, but the first game I remember actually watching was at high school in New Zealand (thus 1990 to 93 sometime) and it was in some class or other - English maybe? With the comparison of the speed of the commentary? Mmm, Canada... sorry, was just thinking about the country then. Did I watch the ice hockey in the Winter Olympics in Calgary perhaps? Harder than rugger, soccer or cricket to pin down LOL.
Bush and Kerry's first debate tonight, Australia time. Will wake up tomorrow morning - hmm, no, it's at nine Eastern time, so that is what, seven in the morning ours? Will just finally be good to have a REAL thing to compare both of them to rather than the ads that keep going around and around and around.
Work was OK today - the boss said that I was doing a great job, and that I could do anything in the company I wanted to, and that the first thing on the list will be to make me permanent. I didn't say ANYTHING to that - but oh, it was nice, my last call of the day, really really confusing case and all, the old tenants aren't turning off their lines, even though they have been told that any charges from the newbies will go to them - said to the new tenant who is afraid that the old one could turn it off at any time that I would keep an eye on the number just to see if there are any orders on it, and would ring her back if a cancellation order came in - anyways, after frustrating myself and being ten minutes over time, she said you guys are great - thanks Selina, that was the exact right thing to say :)
Okies, that's about all on my mind for the moment - til tomorrow

Thoughts of the Day and Other Stuff
Spring has returned. The earth is like a child that knows poems. - Rainer Marie Rilke
The sky is the daily bread of the eyes. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. - Martin Luther King Jr
Mmm, especially with that last one, hearing one of Luther King's speeches on that linked site. He had a great great voice. And have found a link to a webcast of the March on Washington - I did that as a grade nine or ten History project at school. Or actually no, it's not a link, but my curiousity is piqued now. But they are all great quotes, and they were all said by REAL people LOL, sometimes I wonder how many of those thoughts of the day are just thought up on the spot and let's invent a name...
Had a stonking headache all day, and work was bleah again - but in the sense that I had a headache rather than anything else. Had that 'word' I have been thinking about saying the last couple of days with one of the team leaders, starting off with the 'how am I doing' phrase, and then five minutes in the room with her LOL. The upsurge of it is that in the next reshuffle, which will be taking place in the next couple of weeks, I will surreptitiously (if I have the right word, meaning and spelling) be moved to another part of the floor. Hmm, wondering who my cubicle buddies could be then. Apart from the problem child, I have a fairly good lot around me at the moment.
Highlight of the day I think was feeding a magpie at lunchtime - lol, the whole buying a sausage roll thing, and then the first bite you take of it, you realise you WEREN'T feeling like a sausage roll for lunch. But there was this cute little maggie (short for magpie LOL) and it didn't fly away when I walked up to the seat it was hovering by, and then I just HAD to feed it LOL. It was so cute - and I even saw the vocal cords going when it did its call - have never been that close to a 'wild' bird that sang before. Was a nice lunch, just being under the boughs of this huge tree at the square beside our office building. It is a good place to sit, and that tree just looks around a hundred years old or something - FINALLY got around to taking some pics of the park/square today, after so many times saying yes I should should should, but finally got around to it - just hope I didn't look too dorky taking pics :) they should come out alright though.
Oh, and this development is dangerous, lol they have given us instant messaging at work (only can be to workmates though). Only for work related purposes of course LOL - well, I haven't abused the email so IM could be just as safe.
Hmm, was trying to get an audio clip for MLK on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, free at last thank god almight and all that, but hitting brick walls at the moment.
Anyways, out of here, at least for this entry :)

Rebecca Twigley
Mmmmmm - this is an entry for the boys I think :) This is an article and a shot from the Front and a web discussion and a shot from the Back. Hehehehe - sorry guys, I can't find a better photo thus far :)
He Doth Protest Too Much
Very Hamlet LOL - one of today's columns from the Washington Post, regards Bush attacking Kerry about Iraq, and Cheney saying the Dems are the party that Al Qaeda wants to win. Bleah. But I do like the last sentence :)
And surprising for a column in the New York Times, I wouldn't think El Salvador would be a good example to use of democratic processes re Afghanistan and Iraq now - I mean, the CIA and Reagan Administration were supporting the other side at the time. Or am I getting it mixed up with the Sandinistas in Nicaragua?

Quiet Day
Well, that was a quiet day at work - neither great nor bad, and was nervous taking calls for what I might muck up - but at least I was under the radar for most of it - was going to mention something to my boss, but of course she was off on training. Thought of talking to Sue, but didn't get around to it. We will see how things go, confidence is such a funny thing, it takes so little to knock it, and it takes so little (it seems) to bring it back.
Hmm, not too much else to report - the Labour Party in Britain is having it's conference, Iraq drags on, the build up to Debate #1 goes on in the States (woohoo), only ten more days of the election campaign here (Australia) to endure, no hockey still, NFL is chugging along OKish, Mets beat the Cubs in their latest series - oh, and Hurricane Jeanne hit Florida. Like you may have noticed, I don't really write about my websurfing on the weekdays :)

What A Bastard
Hmm, how were your Mondays? Mine was OK, had training for most of it, was supposed to be tomorrow, but one of the trainees for today was on a later shift and must have forgotten - was OK, but one day when there really should be four - was good to get away from my desk though, and talk a bit especially with Kirsty :)
Good to get away from my desk, because I had a bad phone call my first one - basically about thirty seconds after I logged on at 7.30 - NO ONE ever calls THAT early - and the guy was unhappy because I don't know why - he had phone lines on, he wanted digital ones, but they had been taken OFF just last week? Anyways, it didn't help that the customer didn't have a sales rep assigned (vacant portfolio) and I had to ask my nearest escalation point what to do. Who came over, pressed a couple of buttons while he loomed, and said to tell the customer that someone would get back to him. And then was unhappy again when I didn't use the word 'maybe' when I said someone would call the customer back today - and here I was thinking that the whole thing was to give the customer CONFIDENCE in our company's capabilities. So yeah, dodgy first up phone call, leapt at the chance when one of the team leader's said Paul can you take one of the training places - and then I was given the name of someone to email - the escalation point came over and wanted to read the email before I sent it out (geez, felt like I'm a newbie chef giving a meal to the king, via the bastard food tester LOL), and then when I got approval to give the dish to the king - oh, I mean send the email on, fucking game of email ping pong until someone decided to take responsibility. And THEN the guy says can I give him a call - umm, I sent it on to you guys with GOOD notes, and the customer is waiting for a RESPONSE - and is agitated, he needs a SINGLE point of contact SOON. And this is while I'm in training and at work an hour BEYOND when I should be - fuck it, I have been responsible enough the last few weeks with extra time after I SHOULD go, an email tomorrow morning will have to do. Sorry about all the Capital words by the way LOL.
And back to this escalation point - he sits right nearby me, and seems to be judging me constantly on how I am with customers and what I am doing. And being negative about it in the main. He yes I will admit it, intimidates me and even when I try to get other people's help, who may possibly be more positive about my mistakes - I am a newbie after all - he either inserts himself into the conversation or kind of has a sense of shock about him that I didn't go to him first. He is WRECKING my confidence in the job, I was thinking about it on the walk home from the train station and I see that, and it's like I am second guessing myself or not wanting to be in the office - yes, it has the potential to get that bad. Customer service is all about confidence ya know.
Oh, and all the good positive stuff with V, like 99.95 percent of it, and it keeps snagging on the 0.05 that is of less and less importance as more time goes on. Really makes me wonder sometimes - little negative versus huge positives, let's doubt everything anyways. And why isn't it considered official yet? hmmm...

And the Websurf Continues :)
Yay, Wellington THRASHED Taranaki (pronounced Taarahnahkey LOL) in the rugby back home 73 to 28. Now if only our Super 12 team could do as well.
Interesting one this article, about the restoration of a 3000 year old neighbourhood in Damascus' Old Town, not for the tourists, but for houses, restaurants and living areas for actual Syrians. I was saying earlier how a 1300 galaxy cluster was being formed 800 million years ago (light years away) as mindblowing - it is almost as mindblowing thinking of how old Damascus is, and how Saint Paul used to wander around it (not that I am religious or anything). And I WAS THERE woohoo - when the whole neighbourhood was a lot quieter than it is now - 1998. Mid 98, not towards the end where the US and Britain were threatening missile strikes on the country.
From the article - 'Old Damascus was an important trading hub on the Silk Road between the Far East and Europe. At its peak, 100,000 people of various professions, tribes and faiths lived inside its walls. The vast Omayyad Mosque, once shared by Christians and Muslims, rests on the remains of a Roman temple dating back to the 3rd century, which itself sits on the ruins of an Aramaic temple built 1,000 years earlier. Tradition holds that after his blinding conversion on the road to Damascus, Saint Paul recovered his sight in a stone hut on Hanania Street.'
OMG, there's a fly in the ointment - there's going to be a PLANET HOLLYWOOD just outside the Old Town walls. This from a country that didn't even offer Coke for sale six years ago? Hmm, things change I guess, but being in a country without Coca Cola was amazing in it's weirdness - good weird of course :)
Hmm, think that is about it for now - 2 and a half entries later for the day LOL. Not much up with today for me - read the newspaper, have lunch, see what else is up with the day, but nothing planned.
Spot yas all later :)

Hmm What Happened There?
I didn't think I had hit the submit button for the last entry, but I must have? At least it published OK, I would have hated to think of all that stuff getting lost in cyberspace (although, hmm my readers the few of them out there may hope that would happen LOL, I do talk a lot of rubbish sometimes - but it is truly how I see the world blah blah, and everyone is entitled to an opinion, I will respect others and hope the same about me).
Where were we, hmm Hurricane Jeanne, Florida and Haiti eh. Was going to try and find a link for those food riots in Haiti, but have found the next interesting topic, yes indeed, back to Iraq, but a British story here, a court case in the offing about a friendly fire episode that isn't the usual screw up - the soldier was killed because he didn't have body armour, which he had handed out to other troops. The other troops being in the dock, after soldier A got shot by an Iraqi mob, that he could have survived if he did have the armour. Or may well have died as well, but the whole thing of we didn't have enough supplies of armour etc, blame the Defence Department. Oh, reading further down it was a true friendly fire thing yeppers.
Back to Jeanne, and it could cut the power for millions of Floridians for up to three weeks. And the ground is already saturated by the other three hurricanes so there could be serious flooding - four hurricanes in six weeks, weirdness. What was that about climate change Dubya LOL, let's keep drilling in Alaska blah blah :)
Good article here about the history of British hostages - in 18th Century North Africa, North America and India, and in 19th Century Afghanistan. Not a new invention from Lebanon, Iran or Iraq, and tens of thousands were taken, soldiers as well as everyday settlers.
Oh, and while other stories hog the headlines, oil has hit another record high - $US 48.88 a barrel, what with Ivan battering the Gulf of Mexico fields and stuff. Dare I mention the federal and current account deficits LOL? $50 a barrel before the US election is my guess - lol and yes, I am as reliable as the CIA :)
Mmm, space the final frontier story of the day - the biggest collision in the universe thus far discovered has been made public today. One huge galaxy cluster is eating another galaxy cluster - this is a cluster of GALAXIES dudes, approximately 1300 of them - mindblowingly awesome in scale. Now let's find some piccies LOL. 800 million light years away, so that's approximately three times the age that dinosaurs STARTED walking around. Mindblowing can be the only word. And here is a piccie, or at least a computer generated thingy, courtesy of CNN - and a wider ranging article than the LA Times, sorry LAT - love your election coverage though LOL. Hmm on the comparison with Hurricane Ivan though, LOL reminds me too much of Billy Bob Thornton in Armageddon saying the rock was as big as Texas LOL.
OMG Schuhey is last on the grid at the Chinese Grand Prix! Spun out on the first corner of qualifying, hmm, but, really, he could crash in all the rest of the races and STILL win the championship.
Hmm, interesting article here, about the realities of living with AIDS - wouldn't usually read the Arizona Republic, so thanks Google News for bringing it up - and my link is just one more to push it up the importance list LOL. Scary stuff though, in the actual article. Oh goodness, the story doing the rounds among Indian truckers is that they get hot in the trucks, if they don't have sex they will g0 blind - interesting play on the usual blindness thing. Very good article indeed. And now let's trawl around Phoenix AZ a bit more LOL. It's always lovely to travel through GOOD websites that you haven't even seen before, or see the local pride that says these nightclubs and restaurants are good, or the local viewpoint of big international stories - well, thinking more the US elections, the papers usually get all the same feeds on Iraq etc.
LOL, I like this, Politics for Dummies, about a third of the way down the page. What the Heck Were The Primaries Anyway? Short, Painless Profiles of the Candidates YAY. Having elections without Fallujah type anarchy woohoo, and that the electoral college is made up of blowhards who are hyperactive in local politics - who is the writer, omg this is good!

Insert Inspired Title Here
LOL, it's a bit of a worry when the most eye catching link from the BBC News front page is the rumour that Ahnald may have a cameo in Terminator 4. Wiping out the girly men of California's legislature no doubt. Apologies to Darfur, Iraq, Pinochet and the rest, but with most other stories there is just so much information overload (well, apart from the 1984ness of what the Iraqi and US administrations think is going on in Baghdad, Fallujah and the rest).
Watched Apocalypse Now last night (Redux version - in the original I guess there weren't any nipples showing LOL?), and the madness of war and all - regards Iraq another week to go this month and already the casualty toll is horrendous, the revolt is getting more effective (insurgency just sounds like firecrackers in front of police stations, revolt is a much better word). Even the CIA and the intelligence community - not that they have much chop after the WMD slam dunk debacle - are saying that there is bad, worse or worst as medium term options in Iraq, flawed elections to civil war. And Bush dismisses them now as 'just guessing' - why now, and not in the RUN UP to the war??? Grrr, have to find a less provocative issue for my next paragraph.
Hmm, well, maybe - just Google Newsing the phrase Bush Just Guessing LOL. Good one, although obviously biased to the left, here - and FYI here is the actual Bush quote - “The CIA laid out several scenarios. It said that life could be lousy, life could be OK, life could be better. And they were just guessing as to what the conditions might be like". Rolling eyes here.
And bringing in the US election on this one - mmm the first debate next week, FINALLY a face to face - Iraq Iraq Iraq is what the issues should be. Finally Kerry seems to be figuring that out - yes, the Dems seem to be more trusted (although that phrase with ANY politician ick) on schools, healthcare etc, but to duck Iraq would just be plain stoopid at the moment - lol not saying that the Dems can't be that of course. But at least bring it out into the debate rather than either refighting Vietnam and the Texas National Guard, or just roll over and wait for your tummy to be rubbed listening to all the freedom will prevail and just a handful of dead enders that the Administration peddles. Though I'm not American, I don't have a vote, so obviously I am just as important as all those former prisoners also taken off the electoral rolls.
And good article from Slate here, concentrating on the debates YAY - God, I'm pathetic aren't I LOL showing this much interest in not my own nation politics. But as an op ed in the Guardian a couple weeks ago, or maybe an editorial, said, this is basically a world election now - whoever gets into the White House for the next four years will have a HUGE impact on the world in general, more so than any other election, the September 11 and let's flex our muscles response - before the US got involved in World Wars One and Two, Europe had already been fighting for two or three years - this could be the first big war that the US responded to immediately - terror I am talking about, not to confuse the Iraq quagmire with that, although it is morphing into it. LOL, like the way Slate has put it, before the Republican convention Bush had lost the incumbent's referendum, but after it Kerry lost the challenger's one - where's a Ross Perot when you need one LOL.
And maybe the most important state in the upcoming election, Florida, is under the gun with the fourth hurricane of the season - you can't see election ads if you don't have power. And whether or not they think federal politics is important at the moment, the governor, Dubya's brother, has skyrocketing approval ratings - hmm, Hurricanes for Bush LOL. And yes, I was certain that Ivan had gone up through Maryland and New York and all after carving through Georgia and the Carolinas, but suddenly it's back on the Texas coast? Well, that is because it split in two, one went north and one went back out to sea to become a tropical storm again. Of course, the damage in the States is nothing as compared to the Caribbean, Haiti losing 1100 people in flooding, the Caymans losing about 85% of their buildings. Oh, the toll is up to 1500 in Haiti now, as if that country has a great coping mechanism for natural disasters - there were food riots yesterday, as UN troops (aren't Canadians based down there?) tried to restore order.

Well, There's A Surprise
I am still borderline for Australian medical care apparently. Despite having a job with one of the top companies in the country, a bank account, basically all links with the rest of the world apart from friends severed, blah blah blah, still I'm not good enough to be considered a permanent resident. I need to buy insurance or pay some bills or buy some furniture or something blah blah blah - but at least it was a polite refusal kind of thing rather than a complete rejection LOL.
Yesterday was not a good one at work - there is a staff member who sits near me that doesn't seem to understand that I don't have his ten years of experience, I'm not perfect at taking phone calls. Stop trying to give recommendations on things you know nothing about Pauly boy - but that is kind of good because it's the helpful side of my persona coming out.
Will write more later today, am kind of sleepy at the moment - that's what I get for staying up until 1am in the morning eh LOL.
Til then

Hmmm Not So Much Fun
Yeah, you may remember me saying where did Lisa and Jo get off to? Well, today I learned that Jo fell off some steps, and went to hospital for four hours - banged her head, hurt her arm, sprained her back. Lisa helped her in the ambulance, so yeah, Jo wasn't a happy bunny today, and was only in - she wasn't in yesterday - for the money. Hmm. What can you say to that, apart from give your sympathy blah blah, which I did - it's strange, she can be so loud and mouthy and then so quiet and fragile, I guess it's women's perogative or something.
One of the morning TV shows over here is in Canada courtesy of the Tourist Board I am sure this week, and just before I leave for work in the mornings, I have my 'I've been there' moment - LOL they have been to Quebec City and Montebello and Montreal and Toronto so far on the East Coast, and Whistler and Victoria and Vancouver and Jasper so far on the West. I loved Canada, if I haven't made that clear, but the personal situation hmm, it didn't pan out. Hmm, there's a link to Yukon tourism, now I LOVE snow and glacier and those type of photos, but actually being there hmmm. And the Thousand Islands, all that Lake Country in Ontario and Quebec is lovely.
Oh, that's what I was looking for - about forever since the thing actually happened, and Janet Jackson and CBS have been fined over half a million for that Superbowl half time fiasco - just had an idea, should we fine Donald Rumsfeld for his shock and awe prime time fiasco in Baghdad? Or how about all the soft porn on MTV? I mean, really, all the people that got offended by it, we aren't living in the 1950s anymore. LOL, let's start up a movement for constitutional amendments against wardrobe malfunctions.
It's a lot easier to stomach than the other news on at the moment - all the hostages in Iraq. Yes, let's release a couple of Iraqi female prisoners, oh no, our bosses the Americans say we can't even release one. Two Italians and two Americans executed, a Brit with a cloud over his future, it's all very depressing - Carter got kicked out because of the Iranian hostages, why on earth, no the question is HOW on earth does Bush keep tap dancing around it? Shades of Vietnam AND Iran in the mix, and yet everything's going well and democracy blah blah blah. And I am sooooooo glad I didn't give in to all the chatroom pressure and watch the Berg execution video. Seeing that sort of thing I do NOT need, and glad that when everyone else said have you seen it have you seen it, I thankfully didn't get involved in being a sheep. I would love to be a journalist, or maybe an op-edder LOL, but hmm yeah I think I could watch that sort of stuff if it was my job, I wouldn't like it but I think I could do it.
I go to the Iraqi Coalition Casualty website pretty much daily - the totals they have on the left are solely about the Americans, Brits, Poles Italians and the rest, but the right hand side is just utter chaos from all over the country. Links to stories on other sites, such as a random sampling from today, New Zealand troops home by Saturday, Iraqi scientists still in detention even though there were officially no WMD, Italian and British hostage stories, a US soldier dying of his wounds after having nine pieces of shrapnel in his head, Black Hawk Down, Polish public opinion wants their troops out, fighting in Samarra, car bombings aplenty - when are things going to start improving? It's a simple question.
LOL my Mets site isn't showing the table anymore but just the statistics for the Mets all time or season to season - yes guys, it's time to wrap it up, especially when we are one all in the latest series against the Expos and was a late one run win in the win we had. There's always next year LOL. Hmm, whereabouts are the Cubs this year, the Red Sox are there or thereabouts in the playoff picture, but dunno about the Cubs... off to the MLB site to have a looksee at the GOOD teams - lol, don't worry, I love my Mets, but in a I don't have expectations way - kinda like Crystal Palace LOL, or grr the Canucks - the Canucks are especially frustrating because they are finals potential but no Stanley Cup yet, and not this season either. Ooh, Chicago are only half a game back in the wild card on their side, while Boston are leading the AL. The dream World Series is still alive LOL. Mmm, the Canucks non-NHL season is being sponsored by Tim Horton's - mmm, Timmayyyy (as per the South Park character LOL). Good Canadian cuisine LOL.
OMG, Palace actually WON a match! Oh, but as in 1998, it's in the Cup rather than the League LOL.
Talked to one of my best friends for the first time in ages (on the phone) last night, in Saskatoon. Hiya Leigh, if you are reading LOL, but probably not, she's pretty busy at the moment, work, social etc :) but yeah, always good to hear from as good a friend as she is. And swapped a few new piccies as well woohoo bonus.
OK, think that is enough for the evening - later taters.

A Good Time Had By All
That was quite enjoyable last night, and needed it after the day I had. My system screwed up again and was down for about two hours, and when your system is down for two hours every minute can seem an aeon. Along with stress of not servicing the customers whose work I had already gotten bleah. Anyways, same old same old at work - oh, got my first monthly assessment, well the end of training one that if you remember we self assessed basically. Although Sandy said I was shy but wanted to learn, that was the only new bits I saw. Apparently Sharon got a bad one, and Mel's was kinda indifferent.
But anyways, left work at ten past four - yes, forty minutes beyond what I should have LOL, don't ask, and then before catching the guys for beers before the do, had to go 'window shopping' for DVDs and or CDs. Felt too rushed for CD buying, but got Apocalypse Now Redux on DVD, could have been that or Shawshank or Royal Tenenbaums, was tempted with the latter, but mmm with the Iraq war and the horror the horror and smell of napalm, yes was a clear winner on a one DVD buying day. Then caught up with Mel for half an hour, her hair is bright orange at the moment (dressed up as Vyvyan off the Young Ones for her 21st) and looks nice, and then Jo and Mel for another half hour, while waiting around for the others to turn up, at the Fihelly's bar at the train station. Hmm, lol that bar hmm LOL - Feebs for New Years last year LOL, and hmm a couple of weeks ago with Jo and her mates and the regulars.
Wandered up to the Crest Carlton, apparently quite a classy hotel, and then milled around in the lobby area (of the 2nd floor) for about half an hour or so, while drinks were also milled around us. Light beer, regular beer, red and white wine, champers, orange juice - everyone was so dressed up to the nines, was nice to see. Stood with the regulars before they went for a smoke break and the dinner room doors opened - Mel's top was nice, Lisa had a suit jacket on, suited her (no pun intended), Lexie had a really really nice green scarf...
So basically all my 'lot' were late to get to a table, but didn't really matter cos my table was quite good to sit at - yes, a sit down meal and all, not a buffet or finger food, and REAL butter for the first time since I think I left Canada if not even before, on nice bread rolls - and yo-yos as our Telstra prezzie. Sitting around my table by the time everyone got in were Kirsty, Adrian, Khalinh, Kate, Melanie (G), Kim, some guy from around Data area, Paul W, Kylie, and Ann. Melanie and Kylie's tops especially were quite impressive, but everyone was looking good.
The senior managers did a quick spiel about how well we were doing, and also a quick video and powerpoint thing with whoomp dere it is y'all ready for this old skool thumping music LOL. I heard bits and pieces but wasn't really concentrating on it, lol was asked about it by Maureen and Sue this morning, had it enthused me to work more or harder, and I suaved my way through that potential minefield, I wasn't listening LOL by saying that I was always enthused about work, which they agreed that I was. Woohoo, bullet dodged LOL, and my bosses like me. Anyways, back to last night.
Was nice chatting to everybody, and after the main course, went and socialised a bit more - wandered over and sat down with Sharon, Lisa and Mel, who had one of the big bosses on their table, and then Glen came over and sat with us, and Melanie was basically bopping out of her top, well not quite LOL, and then Glen found the piano and there was almost a Fabulous Baker Boys moment but then Melanie dropped wine down Glen's pants LOL. Yes, you can see a general disintegration of the night LOL. The dancefloor was busy, and as Ann said today, she was surprised I knew all the words to all the songs - Murder on the Dancefloor is the one that sticks in my mind.
Went down and sat with the girls for their smoke break in the downstairs bar, and then went outside and got mauled (in a nice way) by Ursula - top chick Ursula, as Ryan off Big Brother would say. Danced with Sharon for a bit, hmm to Sweet Home Alabama - now surely there is a positive connotation that song brings up, well, apart from the movie LOL - maybe it was off Remember the Titans as well? But yeah, omg blast from the past, work parties at IRD just came to mind LOL. And then the tab on the bar was shut off, and wandered downstairs to smoker central again.
Sat with Sharon, Trevor, Jo, Mel, Lisa and newbie of the night, Sarah from Billing - very pretty, has noticed me in the lifts apparently, only twenty but - LOL it was like with the rest of us, meet Activations where's the piss LOL - eh, I'm sure the quietness can be shorn away, such big eyes as well LOL - all the better hmm no won't go with the big bad wolf teeth line just now LOL. Bought a round of B52s, just cos, and there was a beer as well that Trevor was getting, then Lisa and I headed off to the station but had just missed the 10.54 train - and amazingly there was a near midnight train - I was CERTAIN that the elevenish train was the last one during the normal week, but whew, I was wrong (for ONCE). Wandered back to the hotel, Sarah was just in the process of leaving, but the rest of the guys were there, and another B52 later LOL. Made sure I got to the train station well in advance of the definitely last train for the night, but somehow lost Lisa along the way. Got home at about twenty to one, gave V a quick ring, and then basically crashed.
Bright and early at five thirty this morning woohoo up again LOL. Wasn't dead on my feet at work today, although a lot of water, V and powerade was drank. And I feel I was peppy enough when talking to customers, although fuck, on the phone for another hour to the Helpdesk, maybe THIS time I will get the new LAN cable LOL. Was quite quiet at work today overall.
Okies, din dins time here

Random Websurfing
Hmm, Britney Spears got married again - I can see her and J Lo having a battle royale to take Liz Taylor's crown of most celeb marriages for most talentless actress LOL - although Brit can't really sing either. And from wannabe lesbian kiss to crusading for kabala Judaism - it's always interesting around Madge aka Madonna LOL.
Nah lol I was going to go on, but I will head over to the Iraq side of the news and that is just too damned depressing. Want to just vege out LOL relax - mmm I love my weekend websurfing LOL.

Dammit, the Mets are only two games above the Expos in the worst team in the division stakes - six games between the two sides before the end of the season, so please please pull something out of the bag boys - not the above .500 season I was hoping for, but as per usual LOL.
Anyways, so that is what five thirty in the morning looks like LOL - on early shifts the next four weeks at work, so yeah will be home at about quarter to five at night. Yawn LOL. Umm, talking about yawn, couldn't get to sleep last night, even though it was Serendipity vs Zoolander on the movies - the latter didn't seem as stupid on a first viewing (something about a darkened room LOL), but the former, yes John Cusack, yes Kate Beckinsale doing cute, but OMG the lamest movie I have seen in a long time - and yes, I did see it as a date movie LOL, it was even lame for that... not a good first date movie either, but yes, I'll no doubt raise that disaster at another time LOL.
Work itself, well it couldn't have been worse than Friday, possibly the worst day of work thus far, but forward to the future rather than look at the past. Had a nice lazy day yesterday, maybe next weekend I will have to do something LOL, but it was nice to relax. Netting, reading the paper, playing on the computer (game not on the net), and trying to sleep while watching those two sleepy movies.
Nice little riot that went on here - I mean, when you start punching BEFORE the game even starts, that's a bad thing. Aussie rules, funny sport anyways. Hmm, and all I can find is a few paragraphs, wish I could show you the video that has been on the news LOL - although too lazy to go searching for a link :)
Okies, that's it for me - oh, just a quick aside - when I think deeply about 'the future' I get a small little knot of tension or jumpiness or uncertainty at the centre of my stomach. Tried to ring a neutral party friend in Canada, what with the time zones, when I couldn't get to sleep last night, but she wasn't answering - and no, not a she in THAT sense LOL. Just thought I would mention it, start venting a bit perhaps - no, I am horrid at that, venting LOL.
And tomorrow I might not get on at all, free meal and drinks (in moderation Paul, in moderation) for a work thing the managers saying thanks to the staff - apparently the hotel is really classy, so it will be a good night perhaps... fingers crossed anyways :)

Sunday
Hmm, not as much to report today, think I exhausted myself with the marathon wander thru websites yesterday. Sister came over for the afternoon/evening last night, but then again, I hardly ever talk to her anyways - we are fairly similar but holding a conversation that's a bit of an effort, especially when there are nice shiney new computer games to play (lol on my part) - think she comes over for a home cooked dinner, Saturday night is Dad night, with steak, eggs, chips and onions YUM. Maybe an acquired taste LOL?
Also went and visited my brother for half an hour or so - lol, he has been working most of his career thus far in outdoors or physical kind of work, but he just started this week in the same telco company as I, and omg, bringing out all the office jargon that I have gotten sick of over the past ten years LOL - good luck to him though, just don't send two word emails expecting me to reply LOL. Be interesting to see how he adjusts to office work...
Brisbane lost in the rugby league, but won in the Aussie Rules - of course, I don't like AFL much, and I have gone off league, rugby is the footy code I follow, go Welly go LOL. Oh, and did I mention that New Zealand got flogged in the cricket a couple days ago - oh, and the Paralympics started as well. LOL that should be my link quota out of the way for the day :)
And looking forward to another lazy day WITHOUT the marathon websurf of yesterday LOL.

In The Immortal Words Of Tinky Winky...
Again Again LOL. Like I said before, I hadn't even started reading the papers after TWO entries this morning, and with the tone of that New York Times piece, I couldn't bring such a serious tone into my usual kind of entry - that op ed is important enough to have written out in full, which would have ruined the Tinky Winky thought LOL.
As well as a couple other news articles I found - this one lamenting the fact that Euro liberals can't vote in Florida or Texas LOL (from the Guardian, but OF COURSE LOL) good idea to eBay your votes, since forty percent of the population doesn't vote - or this one poking fun at the Ryder Cup ceremonies on the opening day - go Europe go LOL - most of the players are from preemptive supporting Britain though hmm, where is the cheese eating surrender monkey stereotypes for the Brits? Best lead of any team in a Ryder coming out of the first day...
My ears are bleeding - just heard Jessica Simpson doing a cover of Robbie Williams' Angels song. What with Hillary Duff doing Our Lips Are Sealed, and some singer doing a cover of Belinda Carlisle's Summer Rain, and yes, I know there are SOME singers out there that do original stuff, but aargh LOL - I wonder if Ms Carlisle is still as flame haired as she was in the late 80s hmm - Live Your Life Be Free indeed - god I need broadband so I can download music faster than granny steps. Maybe at the new place my parents will finally settle down instead of looking at the next big thing property or house wise - they bought a new place and will be moving in early November, with me as a passenger...
Iraq just continues to be chaos - no coalition soldiers killed today, but Fallujah bombed and another carbomb in Baghdad. Fuck Mission Accomplished, scuse my language. While no one else noticed no doubt, the Kiwi contingent, after having a year of fixing wells and local infrastructure in the British zone, have withdrawn. Of course, you may not have noticed that we were there in the first place LOL. Ivan the storm was indeed terrible for the whole Caribbean region as well as the USA, and Jeannie looks on the same path - after Charley and Frances, Florida especially sounds like it is in a deep disaster fatigue.
Jeezus, just as I have sympathy for Florida, their High Court rules that Nader CAN be on the ballot for the election. What with that and touch tone voting - geez just shaking my head here. And still on North American politics, what is with Quebec not having to have the same accountability for health spending as the other provinces? La lucky province LOL - and yes, I am being kind, sponsorship scandal anyone? Eh, reading further down, the QC provincial health spending rules are basically the same as the others - sorry to any Montreal and Quebec City readers LOL.
How on earth do these rap videos manage to get such sexy girls to dance on them? LOL Chingy Jackpot playing at the moment - umm hazard a guess, lots of money? Damn, I want to be a rap star LOL. Although I have no talent at it whatsoever, all I needed was to be born a month later and I would be the Australian Idol LOL LOL, and conquer the world via that. LOL the We Will Rock You plot starts off with Idol eek. Mmm, the costumessssss in that show....
Doing my daily check of the LA Times electoral poll page - well, almost daily, I check whether there are any new states polled in the home page and then maybe go and do the calculations of states - it's not looking good for Kerry at the moment, but lol remembering a quote from Jim Bolger, New Zealand PM of a while ago, the 1993 elections were saying he would get voted out, but patched up a coalition and his election night quip to the journalists saying how did this happen was 'bugger the pollsters'. Maybe the most famous thing he will be known for LOL?
Bleah, Robbie Williams actually doing a new song. He was good in small doses, but noooooo not a Robbie fan lately. Another pessimistic story on Iraq here, saying that whatever happens from now on, the war is basically lost - no hearts and minds are being won, and even if there are elections, the US probably won't like who gets voted for. September 11, 1973 and the Pinochet coup in Chile anyone? Hmm, though saying the US in Iraq is like the Germans in Stalingrad - even I'm not thinking that currently - surely not THAT much of a disaster?
OMG going back to the LA Times electoral thing, Colorado is sooooooooo close - Bush 45%, Kerry 44% - I thought Colorado would be solid bedrock Republican? And the other two states with polls today, Bush is leading in both MN and PA, but only by one or two percent. Maybe the Dems shouldn't lose hope yet? Being a foreigner lol any opinion I have OBVIOUSLY doesn't count - where are the WMD anyone, LOL - no, he's a Kiwi, we can ignore him - what, you guys had troops in Iraq? We just thought they were Northern Irish, what with the funny accents LOL, and being deployed with the Brits.
Nah, gotta close the state by state map off - it's only one or two percent lead in the battleground states, well most of them, but all that red is depressing LOL. Talking about Reds, what about Putin basically shutting down democracy in Russia? Dodgiest leader since hmm Brezhnev? Using Beslan as a pretext to further his control - and Russian democracy I don't think is mature enough to survive this kick and regenerate, like in the US the last four years - not that US democracy was under threat between Sept 11 and now, just meaning the appetite for dissent - make Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2001 or 2002, even last year, and Michael Moore would have been lynched by liberals, let alone the Republicans.
A piece on the potential NHL lockout, the main point being that apart from a few hockey markets that the US is basically yawning about it - front page news in Canada of course. Bring the expansion teams back north of the border - take that you yawners LOL. It's hard to figure out who has the more fair argument - the league is the lowest earning of America's big four, but hmm a salary cap it's hard to say which way it should go. Apart from PLAYING of course.
Okies, I might actually tie it up there, and if not, there will be a fifth entry for the morning LOL - you poor, poor people LOL.

Another Iraq Piece - Good Journalism, Depressing But
This Is Bush's Vietnam - Bob Herbert, New York Times 17 September 2004
ARLINGTON, Va.
The rows of simple white headstones in the broad expanses of brilliant green lawns are scrupulously arranged, and they seem to go on and on, endlessly, in every direction.
It was impossible not to be moved. A soft September wind was the only sound. Beyond that was just the silence of history, and the collective memory of the lives lost in its service.
Nearly 300,000 people are buried at Arlington National Cemetery, which is just across the Potomac from Washington. On Tuesday morning I visited the grave of Air Force Second Lt. Richard VandeGeer. The headstone tells us, as simply as possible, that he went to Vietnam, that he was born Jan. 11, 1948, and died May 15, 1975, and that he was awarded the Purple Heart.
His mother, Diana VandeGeer, who is 75 now and lives in Florida, tells us that he loved to play soldier as a child, that he was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and that she longs for him still. He would be 56 now, but to his mother he is forever a tall and handsome 27.
Richard VandeGeer was not the last American serviceman to die in the Vietnam War, but he was close enough. He was part of the last group of Americans killed, and his name was the last of the more than 58,000 to be listed on the wall of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. As I stood at his grave, I couldn't help but wonder how long it will take us to get to the last American combat death in Iraq.
Lieutenant VandeGeer died heroically. He was the pilot of a CH-53A transport helicopter that was part of an effort to rescue crew members of the Mayaguez, an American merchant ship that was captured by the Khmer Rouge off the coast of Cambodia on May 12, 1975. The helicopter was shot down and half of the 26 men aboard, including Lieutenant VandeGeer, perished.
(It was later learned that the crew of the Mayaguez had already been released.)
The failed rescue operation, considered the last combat activity of the Vietnam War, came four years after John Kerry's famous question, "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"
Although he died bravely, Lieutenant VandeGeer's death was as senseless as those of the 58,000 who died before him in the fool's errand known as Vietnam. His remains were not recovered for 20 years - not until a joint operation by American and Cambodian authorities located the underwater helicopter wreckage in 1995. Positive identification, using the most advanced DNA technology, took another four years. Lieutenant VandeGeer was buried at Arlington in a private ceremony in 2000.
The Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation put me in touch with the lieutenant's family. "I'm still angry that my son is gone," said Mrs. VandeGeer, who is divorced and lives alone in Cocoa Beach. "I'm his mother. I think about him every day."
She said that while she will always be proud of her son, she believes he "died for nothing."
Lieutenant VandeGeer's sister, Michelle, told me she can't think about her brother without recalling that the last time she saw him was on her wedding day, in May 1974. "He looked so handsome and confident," she said. "He wanted to change the world."
Wars are all about chaos and catastrophes, death and suffering, and lifelong grief, which is why you should go to war only when it's absolutely unavoidable. Wars tear families apart as surely as they tear apart the flesh of those killed and wounded. Since we learned nothing from Vietnam, we are doomed to repeat its agony, this time in horrifying slow-motion in Iraq.
Three more marines were killed yesterday in Iraq. Kidnappings are commonplace. The insurgency is growing and becoming more sophisticated, which means more deadly. Ordinary Iraqis are becoming ever more enraged at the U.S.
When the newscaster David Brinkley, appalled by the carnage in Vietnam, asked Lyndon Johnson why he didn't just bring the troops home, Johnson replied, "I'm not going to be the first American president to lose a war."
George W. Bush is now trapped as tightly in Iraq as Johnson was in Vietnam. The war is going badly. The president's own intelligence estimates are pessimistic. There is no plan to actually win the war in Iraq, and no willingness to concede defeat.
I wonder who the last man or woman will be to die for this colossal mistake.

Interesting Stuff
Mmm - when I got home last night the Glasshouse (comedy show on ABC TV - Australian ABC that is) was on and OMG I'm in love (again) - lol Shelly Horton, who the best website I found of was this one, there's a mini-biography in it, and a mini photo - but omg the dress she was wearing last night, very Trinity off the Matrix with a few more horizontal slits in the front -verrrrrrrrrrrry nice LOL - I maybe could email the Glasshouse site and ask when they will have this week's pics up - woohoo!
Today's non-partisan moment - well me trying to be - is from CNN. Laura Bush got heckled in an election speech by a mom that lost a son in Iraq. The whole apple pie appeal of the First Lady hmm and the last first lady was hated by the opposition, but look who's in the Senate now LOL.
Mmm, Rage Top 50 on the TV at the moment - Kelis Trick Me, Franz Ferdinard Take Me Out, Black Eyed Peas Let's Get It Started - soundtrack of my winter methinks.
Had a weird dream last night - obviously I am watching too much news on TV or where ever - dreamt that I was in a war zone as a reporter or something, and the phrase 200 kays or 2 hours drive to Damascus was playing in my head, but looking around there was carnage - bodies and blood spatter and everything everywhere, some sort of bombing was my first thought. Well, hmm either the Iraq war or Napoleon's invasion of Russia playing in my head - very good book by the way - trying to convince my mother to read it, but she is not into war histories. Very graphic dream though - not in a nightmare sense, just as a neutral reporter sense LOL.
Okies, I might be back again LOL, haven't even started reading the papers yet this morning.
Adieu to you and you and you

Satdee Morning
Oh mi goodness, that must have been my worst day at work to date. Didn't start off well, I was on the phone for over an HOUR with the IT Help Desk, my 'workstation' - normal language, computer - was dropping in and out of the system like nobody's business, which meant that it was a dodgy bet minute to minute whether I could connect to the real world (well of computer information) when I had a customer on the phone. Luckily I guess the system blew up when I had a fellow staff member order, rather than a real customer. And the day didn't get much better than that - being behind the eight ball and all, there was a little ball of stress in the back of my mind all day, and therefore nice simple requests for a few of them I got off the phone from the customer and had the startled deer in headlights look LOL. Was not a good day.
And then this afternoon, when I did need to escalate issues, looked around and could I see a boss at all, nooooooooo LOL. And the system was down for about three quarters of an hour across the system not just my comp, so by beer o'clock it tasted very good. Wasn't going to go out this week, but Thursday Sharon said I will need a beer after my day (she was dashing down and back from Sydney to meet a Melbourne mate) and will you guys be around, so yes, lol moral support beer situation last night LOL. Yes, yes, I hear the phrase any excuse from the cheap seats LOL.
So yeah, the regulars were there, Lisa, Jo and Janet, myself, Mel and Lennie and Sharon, who couldn't stop grinning for two hours, didn't even have to ask what went on LOL. And they're thinking of going camping next weekend, hmm and yes I got an invite, thinking thinking - lol I would prefer to go blonde first though - yes, at that bored let's change the way I look part of the whole scheme of things at the moment. Maybe a goatie as well, lol let's do this American Idol style, vote vote lol and one trickles in after maybe a week or so.
Okies, later taters

The Real Day
Hi all - not much to report on today, but just thought I better get back into the habit if I ever want a readership again LOL. Not much today, was training all day at work, but Oh Mi God, you know the type of work colleague who is so hot but always seems to work on another floor and is out of your league anyways - well, actually had one in training today and as well as actually having a couple of fragments of conversation with her, and yes, she seems normal to talk to woohoo - but oh mi god, I didn't mean to look but she was talking to another trainee person and yes, she was bending directly away from me. In really flattering pants. Even when she was in her chair and just stretching in her chair oh mi god LOL.
I wonder if the girl in question is going to this managerial congratulations dinner drinks thing next Tuesday hmmm. The start of a wry but rather large grin on my face here.
Bleah, the NHL is on strike indefinitely. But on the bright side, Canada won the Hockey World Cup - go the WHA LOL.

Drink-drive message goes down the toilet - New Zealand Herald, 16 Sept 2004
Urinals in pubs and hotels across New Zealand are to be the latest place to get across the campaign against drink-driving.
Signs in the urinals are heat-activated and will display a message when hit by warm liquid.
They will say either: "If you drink then don't drive you're a bloody legend," or: "If you drink then drive you're a bloody idiot".
The message disappears when the urinal cools down, ready to be re-activated by the next visitor.
The campaign is being run by the Land Transport Safety Authority.
Liz Taylor-Read at the LTSA said: "This will definitely be a 'moment of truth' experience for any bloke who goes to the toilet in one of the participating pubs.
"These advertisements are designed to get men thinking of the consequences of drinking and driving before they make the wrong decision."
She said crash statistics from the past 18 months show 81 per cent of drinking drivers in crashes were male.
Last year, 131 people were killed in drink-driving crashes – compared to 108 in 2002 and 117 in 2001.
Drinking drivers kill and injure a substantial number of other people each year. Last year they injured or killed 580 of their own passengers, 310 occupants of other vehicles and 45 pedestrians and cyclists.
Members of the Hotel Association of New Zealand have volunteered to take part in the scheme.
By the end of September almost 260 pubs and hotels will have the urinal billboards in place.

Sunday and Beyond
OK, now that I am over the Olympics and the V visit has ended, I can once again go back to my computer a bit more than I previously had had time for LOL. Sunday, to take up from the last entry, went and sat on the pier at the local beach for about an hour in the morning - after catching the train out for the day. Then had fish and chips and sausage in batter and a potato fritter on the beachfront, was very yum. And then was very hot on the walk home to catch up with the parents - just as the V8 Supercar race for the weekend was starting - Dad is big into that, whereas I am more a Formula One fan.
Then went out again after an hour or so to the scrapbooking shop cos V is big into that, and phew just arrived before the place shut, hmm I thought it shut at 5pm but it was 3 instead. Luckily she managed to shop for about half an hour while the owner thought hmm this is a good closing for the day LOL. Wandered back home and had a roast for tea, watched Australian Idol and then had a leisurely drive to drop V off and come back. All very civilised and very nice.
Monday was OK, work was blah, and yes of COURSE your order is more important than anyone else's and of COURSE after I have done all the work you can ring back in and change your mind LOL. Yeah, it started off well though, OMG I won big in the train lottery lol, you know, the mini game I am sure everyone plays that hmm hottie or nottie LOL, hottie to the left of me, hottie to the right, and in front, here I am stuck in the middle with mmm LOL - if I were only Austin Powers and shagadelic LOL. Wanted to head out after work with V but she had gone down to the Gold Coast with her family and was still only part of the way home by the time I lost patience at twenty to six, waiting around town - double or nothing for Tuesday night, as she was flying out on Wednesday/today. Monday, she didn't get back to her unit until 9.00 - I made the right choice to bail that night.
So yes, Tuesday - work was work, blah blah, apart from the fact that I got employee of the week for SOME reason LOL I was rather boggled by it myself - apparently the thing of being available to take work more so than anyone else hmm, like I said, boggled myself. Being a temp though it just means brownie points, not movie tickets LOL. Last night, met up with V after work, had a lazy Kilkenny's at an Irish Bar, before hitting a nice restaurant for some schnitzel with mushroom sauce YUM, and sticky date pudding YUM. Then was off to see The Village, movie - better than I expected, though not as scary. And then back to the apartment for an overnighter - no, not THAT sort of overnighter, just a nice one LOL.
Today, she came into work to have lunch with me and there were tears and stuff, from her, I'm more what's the word, stoic, perhaps - I like that word anyhows, like umm what was the one I was called when younger, laconic, lol I thought it was laid back but it means careful with words hmm. The girls at work, Lisa, Jo and Mel were kidding around with what V and I were up to, but as I finished lunch, V got a big hug from Lisa and Jo awwww. Well, that visit went well, better than expected even, and now LOL it is back onto survival rations - hmm, three movies, one zoo, one shopping centre, three shirts, about six going out meals and four take outs LOL, one book 'darl' lol as the Dymock's assistant called me, must go back to that store LOL - but a lot of enjoyment. Roll up January :)
Reading a really good book at the moment, 1812 Napoleon's Fatal March To Moscow - I love history books that are a good read, this ranks up there with the Stalingrad and Berlin books by Anthony Beevor. Such an awe inspiring but tragic clash of empires - just got to the part where Napoleon marches into Moscow after Borodino - which, surprisingly to me, was a worse battle casualty wise than any of the American Civil War engagements. And I remember (vaguely) being told the building that Napoleon made his base in Moscow, more memorial was Borodino. I've been there LOL!
And oh mi goodness, while I was away in semi holiday land, hasn't there been a lot of news, the Russian school siege, the Jakarta embassy bombing, Iraq sliding further into civil war, Kerry being undercut more and more in the US election - but for another entry, now that I have caught up yay me LOL.

Busy BUSY Times
Hey all - yes, I am still alive and kicking and all, though I have been fairly quiet on here - it is just that with V the best friend up here, I have been going out LOTS. Last Tuesday, cocktails, wedges and movie - the Bourne Supremacy. Wednesday, break time - Thursday, the local across the road from their apartment steakhouse/bar and then watching some mindless TV - Kath and Kim and some Bachelorette kind of show where half the contestants are gay, and the girl loses if she picks a gay bloke. Friday, the bar with workmates, KFC, picking up photos and the casino - $20 our limit each of pokies playing, and watching the Mimi off Drew Carey show clone was quite entertaining - Mimi make up with Ashlea off Big Brother pink dress sense. Dee Light Full LOL.
Saturday was retail therapy at Carindale shopping mall - Oh Mi God, the bread and butter puddings at one of the cafes there were To Die For. Three shirts and so much for the next thing on the shopping list is pants, and a cheapie empire building computer game, and a lot of fun just wandering around the mall with V - she said it was her most enjoyable shopping expedition ever. Did the Big Man with the Tongs impression at the BBQ for tea and then it was off to We Will Rock You, the Brissie version - was well good, and OMG the outfits, rrrrr LOL - if only I had been in the first row or two downstairs instead of in the Gods LOL. The girls in the show had lungs on em. And the jazz or whatever singing afterwards was fun, in that oh mi god how nutty is the singer kind of way and how badly can she ruin Route 66.
Okies, the Sunday and today thing can be later, being booted off the comp for a while. Not too far into the future though fingers crossed, don't want to become a slacker LOL

Busy Times
Hi all - wow time flies when you are having fun - or have things to do in real life away from the house and computer LOL. Last entry was 1 September, but I guess that is North American All Internet Time Starts Here, so in real Australian time could have been the 2nd? Anyways, onto news and stuff...
Had dinner out with the best friend, five of her relatives and a boyfriend on Thursday night. Apart from the dig of why aren't you going for your Aussie citizenship, and if they come to this country they should dress like us (after seeing a Muslimish girl with a veil) the night went quite well. The restaurant we got to was a nice atmosphere and great food (half a rack of ribs, and half a plate of chicken wings, plus baked potato and a small caesar salad), and South Bank is quite nice as an area of town, so not much to complain about. I would say nothing, but then I'm not the tourist at the moment.
Friday night, it was going out with the best friend and workmates. Supposedly a quiet one, but were enjoying ourselves so it was more than just a couple of drinks - I was surprised at how well everyone clicked, and it was nice to see Sharon out as well :) After the workies drinks we headed off for a movie, but decided to bail and have Chinese instead. V has been having Chinese cravings for about two months and couldn't figure out a good Tassie Chinese restaurant, so we went to one that me and Phoebe and the rest had gone to for New Year's umm 2003 I think. Was very nice, but very filling - went home to V's apartment after that, as we had an early start the next day - I slept on the couch, which only the next morning did we figure out was a fold out bed - grrr, I did my back in as well, and had a mini blackout - eek, not good - blaming the food because if it had been a seizure I would have felt far more crap I am sure.
Off to Australia Zoo Steve Irwin's home base the next day, but the great man himself wasn't in. Peggy, Greta and the kids did their own thing while me and V wandered around ourselves - had a good time, good value, not sure whether it's one of the things you can go back to again and again over a short period of time but it was fun. Would have liked a pic with the macaws but timing wise it would have been tight to pick up the photos an hour later. My tour guide radar was on right though, got there and got back OK LOL.
Sunday was good, went in (had the night at home) and went on the City Cat ferry up and down the river - had lunch at Brett's Wharf (poncy Hamilton area LOL), had penne and that's the last real food I have had the last few days, cos I am just soooooooo full. Then a bit of market shopping, and then off to the museum to see the Chinese dinosaurs exhibit (not as big as the Victoria BC Museum exhibit of the same thing?) and wandering around, and then off to Fortitude Valley to see a movie at Palace Centro. 'Beyond Sunset' Ethan Hawke and some French girl talking about unrequited love and such LOL, very much a chick flick and off to see the Bourne Supremacy next - my choice LOL, or at least something with lots of explosions and blood and chicks LOL.
And that's about it for me today, still have to report a bit on yesterday at work, but today is coming up fast and so will catch you again later.

I Don't Know WHAT To Title This One...
OK, three people dead in a stampede in Saudi - nothing too unusual there, the Hajj always seems to hurry some people up to go to paradise with Allah - but this one was because eight thousand people were waiting for discount vouchers from Ikea. Ikea, in Saudi, yes indeed. Sixteen people injured, and yes, it is tragic for the dead and injured and everything, but compared to Israel, North Ossetia and Iraq, it brought almost a wry grin to my face.
Oh, here's a link to a review of that documentary I was watching last night, 'Soundtrack to War' - best one I could find, there were several of them. Some of those female soldiers over there are hot, especially that mechanic girl LOL LOL. Support the troops, don't support the overarching policy.
Okies, enough for this morning - 'family' dinner tonight, five people to try and impress eek.

I Read The News Today Oh Boy
The English Army had just won the war - eh, getting my Beatles verses mixed up, but yeah, Olympic news from last week, news today let alone this week is suicide bombing in Israel, suicide bombing and school hostage drama in Russia, and twelve Nepalis executed by extremists in Iraq. Oh, and Arnie giving his best at the Republican convention in New York, bleah. And guess what was on top of the local news - the Aussie Olympic team getting home. Oh, there is a silver lining to all this, two new planets have been found outside of the solar system - and these ones are only fifteen times bigger than Earth rather than three hundred and eighteen LOL.
My best friend is in town for a couple weeks, is staying with family but will be doing bits and pieces with her LOL. Family dinner tomorrow, not sure where just as long as it isn't KFC or Maccas, five family members to meet eek - and then Friday meet a few workmates of mine, just for a couple drinks NOT an all nighter - and then Saturday is going up to Steve Irwin's zoo - should be fun, and then bits and pieces for the rest of the time, movie here or there and more dinners - had a thought of fish and chips down on Wynnum beachfront just earlier today - as long as the weather is good, the first couple of days of rain the last couple of days in Brisbane, only had showers since May LOL. Oh, and shopping I guess :)
Work is going well - feeling comfortable in the place, even in the fact that it's so easy to be cynical about large corporations. I feel that I am good at my job as well which always helps, and that I leave 90% of my customers either leave happy or satisfied - am not looking forward to my QA sessions (quality assurance) - they get you to listen to your own phone calls eek, everyone hates their own voices. Not getting to talk to the other newbies as much as I would like, but as long as we can go to the pub afterwards LOL, socialising is still all good. Lisa and Mel are keen for Friday, and Jo hmm Lisa said something about blackmail LOL kidding.
Okies peeps, let's hope I get up tomorrow to some better news than I did this morning. Shrugs shoulders, I know I usually revel in bad news and stuff, but there is such a thing as too much. Looking forward to this doco on ABC TV now, Soundtrack to War, about what soldiers have been listening to over in Iraq. Had a brief view of it on Fahr 9/11 - damn I still need to do a couple reviews LOL.
