Death toll up to 127,000 including approximately 85,000 in Aceh alone. The UN has reported that governments have donated $600m to the relief effort through their agencies, and donations from the European public have already hit $100m. Just on the local TV here, World Vision Australia alone has $7m (Australian dollar is about 0.76 to the greenback at the moment). I just hope that this isn't going to become an 'I donated, now I can forget about it' reaction, like most fund raising events. I haven't heard reports of how much the American public has donated, but surely it's more than their government - not saying the word 'stingy' or anything, but Bush was rather defensive about it all in his press conference.
New Year's Eve, will probably be out for most of tonight. Catch you tomorrow :)

US govt has pledged $350 million...nuff said?
ReplyDeleteBesides, who do you think is carrying all those relief supplies to the devasted areas...the Swiss f'ing Navy? Or maybe the UN's fleet of C-130 cargo planes?
How much does it cost to keep a CARRIER BATTLE GROUP (that's 16 ships) 4000 miles from home port?
How much for the round the clock flights of C-130's ferrying IMMEDIATE and ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL relief to the people MOST in need?
It ain't France...or Germany...or the U f'ing N.
It's just us stingy Americans.
