Mmm, Radiohead's song off the album Kid A (as in the title). And just had a Moby song off Play before, via the wonders of Launchcast - takes me back to my first Canadian trip, in November 2000. Both those albums bring that time back to me with such a zing, if zing is the right word LOL. Vancouver Island is one of those wonderful places on the planet, and no, it is not just cos I was truly madly deeply with my first real girlfriend there LOL.
Grinning widely here, memories. The island brings back better memories than the mainland though. Sitting at a bus stop on one of the major bridges above Granville Island for seemingly hours, waiting to head back to Tsawassen, or having a huge argument with K (for what I can't remember now) and driving around Stanley Park in a strop, Vancouver itself I haven't had the best of luck. But Victoria, Nainamo, Cathedral Grove, Duncan - yes indeed, smiling here.
The best of times the worst of times. I don't think H ever really thought of me as a long term thing, but boy did I have fun on that trip. Even the simpleness of going down to the video store, walking her exes dog (yeah, I know, I should have seen something was up then), and then having a gorgeous salmon steak meal. For the longest time before then, I thought that salmon was only the pink can stuff, that it wasn't even a real fish or something.
British Columbia, gotta love it. I could ramble forever on that one trip with H, and just slightly less so with the whole trans Canada thing with K. Not that Ottawa itself wasn't fun for the most part (as Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes comes on the radio, a la overplayed in mid 2003 on Much Music), and I got to an NHL game, play offs even, but let's just luxuriate in the BCness of it all over on the West Coast.
I'm sorry to those of you that think I should adjust more to being in Oz, but Canada is a pretty big part of me, even now, even after all the mess I went through leaving the place. Of course I like Oz, but it is more a work in progress than a completed piece of art, Siamese kittens and all LOL. Ramble ramble ramble.
Today was an OK day, LDU was being loud, SGR was stressed, I was quiet LOL. A couple of customers I had today were doing the whole let's turn Paul upside down and shake out all the knowledge out of him we can, twenty five to thirty minute calls as they check absolutely everything they can LOL. One of the calls I quickly got lost in, no there isn't any easy way to do it, and your wish to change two simple lines will cause about a twenty line modification grr, the other one I had I got the whole warm fuzzies helping a customer to the best of my ability.
But I so didn't want to be at work in the first place, all the way on the train in this morning I was thinking just turn back you can call in sick. And then getting there I was so unmotivated grrr, I gotta find motivation again soon.
Michelle Branch's Everywhere is on the music thing now - reminds me of the CDs I made for K when I was in Ottawa. Hey I had to be productive with my days somehow. Saturday mornings, heading out to the West Side, having breakfast with friends, driving back to central Ottawa, doing the shopping on the way. I kinda sorta miss that ya know.
Kinda sorta yeah :)
Okies, I gotta go before I start getting all maudlin (as Under Pressure starts up music wise, good song but hella maudlin...)
