Had the WEIRDEST dream this morning - remember yesterday how I was thinking about the war in Congo and then was thinking about the baseball? Well, I think my brain somehow kept that thought going early this morning - started by us playing softball (underarm pitches, yanno) with volleyballs LOL. Anyways, SW from work was on the opposing team and hit a home run. Then we switched innings or something and went to the other teams dressing room where they were executing those people that hadn't scored home runs. Got the feeling of 1994 Rwanda and all (yesterday or the day before was the anniversary of the presidents being assassinated which started all the insanity), and the killers allowed us (I can't remember who was on my team as well, but got the feeling it wasn't just me) to take four bodies home with us. Then one of the bodies, a child, coughed and started crying, alive and all, and we weren't quite in the Qantas terminal, so were still afraid we would get stopped and the child would be killed... VERY strange huh...
This here is a good article about one of the big stories in this part of the world at the moment - the Schapelle Corby trial in Bali, Indonesia. Basic story is, cute Aussie surfer girl turned up in Bali with 4.1 kilos of dope in her luggage, got arrested blah blah blah. Conspiracy story in Australia is that she was the unwitting victim of interstate dope smuggling within Australia that didn't get taken out before the surf board went overseas. This story from a prisoner who overheard it - and hmm the general Aussie feeling that Indonesian justice is second rate, and from the Indonesians the thought that the Aussies are condescending. There is even the suggestion that even if she is convicted that she should do her prison time in Australia? Now, she is coming across very innocent and unwitting, and I hope she is actually that, but to trample another country's rule of law to get the 'right' result? Hmm.
Although the Aussies do have a thing about Bali, the bombings there in 2002 seemed almost to be more Australia's tragedy than Indonesia's... sorry, being a bit uber cynical here - it was everyone who was involved in it who suffered losses...
And here is another good Aussie story - the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea had to take off his shoes at the airport security check last time he came through Brisbane Airport. Umm, yeah I know that Customs should be fair and impartial and such and not fear nor favour who they check, but really, they wouldn't do it to President Bush or the Chinese boss would they?
Hmm more later, out of ideas for now...
