Well, I went and saw The Ring 2 yesterday, and went to work today. That is the short version LOL. Hmm, review the movie or whinge about work first? Review I think...
The Ring is one of my favourite scary movies of the past decade, and one that is almost as scary a second or third time around (take note, Blair Witch Project). Having only seen it on the small screen, I regret not seeing it at the cinema, and hoped that The Ring Two would be a sequel in the vein of Empire Strikes Back or similar.
Unfortunately, it does not even come close to being as good a movie as the original. This is probably due to the fact that all the elements of the first make almost identical appearances in the second - the teens watching the video and dying can be expected, but as soon as Simon Baker makes an appearance as the major male figure in the movie, you are likely to think how long will he last.
Naomi Watts is as pretty as ever, and does not have that demanding a role to play, while the cameo roles are probably the best characters of the piece. Gary Cole as the slippery real estate agent and yes, it is really Sissy Spacek as Samara's mother, but possibly the best character of the movie, and one that could have been spun out a bit more, was the cynical psychiatric nurse who has been there done that on all the horror movie cliches - similar to Jamie Kennedy's know it all character in the Scream series.
In fact, humour is a common theme throughout the movie, even more so than the horror. There are no big set pieces of horror that either aren't exactly the same as the first movie or numerous horror movies before. There are no big scares - yes, your face turns to wax if Samarra doesn't like you, and yes, Naomi Watts finds herself back down in the well, and, although there is an interesting aside on the ease a parent can find themselves in trouble, the movie just doesn't stand up to the original.
Naomi Watts fans would be advised to check it out on video or DVD, but all other viewings should be taken as a dosage to cure insomnia.
Hmm, hope that wasn't too harsh (real Paul back by the way LOL), but there were good lower back and nipple views of Naomi, and hearing her swear was a highlight, and, as stated, the real estate agent and psych nurse were the best characters, but, regards Naomi, not a patch on Mulholland Drive LOL - and yes, I will stop drooling :)
Work today was OK for the morning, but this afternoon oh boy. First off our letter creation thing went on the blink, so all the confirmations and completions we send out had to wait until the little tech boys went in to invade Worddocgremlinia-zikistan LOL, ok, hmm, a bit too imaginative there Pauly. But anyways, that was OKish I guess, just a few more buttons to press later on, but then this dickhead of an account manager came to me with a request...
This guy had talked to me about three weeks back, and I had done this order for him, to the LETTER that he asked basically, and he had sent the request in late so we were being nice to him by pushing the appointment date forward. And he rings in again today to say that the order needed to be redone - this was a pretty complex piece of work in the first place - and how did the error happen in the first place - following your instructions mate - and what was I going to do about it. I did everything right first time around, and this re-request is going to cause a truckload of rework, and he goes on as if it is my fault.
Not often I get to breaking point at my job, but this afternoon I was fuming. It took forty minutes to redo this guy's order, and then when I tried to load it to the database, the computer kind of said, I know how frustrated you are with this piece of work, let's just frustrate you a bit more LOL - and wouldn't accept the new order - fuck knows why, leave it for the morning. So I was over the end of my shift anyways, and decided to finish off the letters that weren't creating earlier in the day, saves doing it tomorrow.
Very frustrating grrr.
And poor Prince Charles, he just can't catch a break with this wedding to Camilla thing - now it seems that the proposed wedding date would clash with the Pope's funeral. The main issue being it seems that the Archbishop of Canterbury would look very bad if he did the wedding blessing instead of attend John Paul's funeral hmm. And I guess it would also look bad form to do both things on the same day - oh, and the same considerations with Tony Blair as well. Oh, and isn't that nice, we get another couple of weeks of the phoney campaign - because the Pope died its inappropriate to call an election apparently.
Hmm, is interesting to see all the ceremony in play now that John Paul II has died. The laying in state (reminds me of Lenin's tomb in Moscow seeing the Pope up on that dias), the cardinals politicking, an entire city (Rome), and probably a good part of the world, grinding to a halt for the funeral, and not many less people intrigued by who is going to be next pontiff - all very elaborate and medieval and interesting :) And they are expecting two million people to file past him, paying their respects, until the Friday funeral - St Peter's will only be closed for three hours in the early morning each day - if that works out, what if you are there at 1.59 am, will you have to wait until five to pay your respects?
Hmm, a major outbreak of Marburg virus in Angola, a close relative to Ebola. One hundred and forty six people dead so far with a disease that has no known cure and a very high mortality rate - basically think of those massive disease movies that came out about ten years ago or so, but the monkey was so cute in Outbreak LOL, didn't they use the same one in Friends or something? Anyways, Marburg virus, not a funny topic, if it hits Luanda hmm I am sure all hell will break loose...
Hmm, I was just looking for reports for the attack on Abu Gharib yesterday that injured forty US soldiers, but the newspapers seem to be all Pope all the time. Will let it lie for a day, am tired here, and need to get some sleep :)
